Anyone have an old Orange SIM they don't need?

Hello all,

I've been intently reading through the postings in these forums. I just bought a C500 and I realize that the only way for me to SIM-unlock it using the described free techniques is to have first used it on an Orange network, or to at least have an Orange SIM card. I'm in the US and have never been an Orange customer so I'm looking for an Orange SIM card that no one's using so that I can SIM-unlock my phone. Unfortunately at this point I'm in no position to shell out the 20 pounds to have it unlocked by imei-check.co.uk. Is anyone willing to part with their old Orange SIM? Or is there anyone here who used to live in Europe and had service with Orange, but now is in the US and does not need their Orange SIM card?

Please mail me so that we can discuss this in private. I realize this is a long shot, but at this point I'm desperate. I will pay for shipping if it's a reasonable amount.

Thanks much!

Thanks. I have actually read through that thread several times already. My issue is that since I have never used Orange before, my phone upon bootup immediately switches to the "SIMLock: Network is locked. Please enter unlock code" dialog box. Therefore I can't even run the application unlock procedure... I'm trying to investigate if I can get past this screen without having to shell out another 20 pounds to unlock my phone via imeicheck. I believe I can do this if I have an Orange SIM (possibly even a dead one).

thanks!

Hi,

www.orange.co.uk currently sell them for just £1 (about $1.80) but not sure if they post internationally?

But surely an Orange SIM won't work unless your phone is already SIM unlocked?

Well since my phone is locked to Orange out of the box, I'm betting that I can pop in an Orange SIM to get past the SIMLock dialog box, so that I can run the unlock procedure...

Yeah, sorry, I didn't read your post properly, I thought you had an SMT5600 and wanted to put an O sim in it to unlock it..

If you don't have any luck with someone offering you one, you're probably best off looking at ebay.co.uk there are loads and you could probably pick one up very cheaply.

Thanks for the great tip! I didn't realize people sell this stuff on ebay. I found some for pretty cheap like you said.

I've also bought (from an official Orange shop) a C500 without being an Orange customer. As I paid it full price, they gave me the unlock code directly. I guess you've bought yours as a "second hand" phone as you're in the US.

BUT, there was a "dummy" SIM card (PIN code 0000) included into the package. It's provided to be able to play with the smartphone without having the phone feature. Check into your box... it was into an advertising.

Gosh darnit! I never noticed one the first time around when I looked at the package contents. I looked again more closely, and this time I think I found the advertisement you were referring to, with a small slot that was... ... EMPTY

I guess the seller (on ebay) had removed the SIM (probably not a dummy one after all) when s/he bought it. My hopes surged for a moment... :)

Thanks again.
