Dear all,

Its that time of the year again when 12 months are coming to an end and u're due for an upgrade.

There are a lot of good deals on offer and now an increasing no. of companies have USB connections to link up to the PC with MP3 compatible technology to be used as ring tones.(eg NEC e338, Samsung D500)

However not all these aren't Smartphones are they?- how do they compare with the tried and trusted?

More importantly can I switch all my contacts over at the click of a button or is it going to take a few days?

Any Help greatly appreciated

Vanderduke

Sure, there are other non-smartphone phones that can do MP3 playback and ringtones. Check out http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/finder.php for a highly-customizable device search page that will let you specify custom ringtones and MP3 features.

Re: contact switch: Most phones are pretty standardized when it comes to this. Generally, you back up your contacts to your SIM card on your old phone, then when the SIM is transferred to the new one you do an "Import from SIM" to your contacts list. The exact menu options vary from phone to phone, but usually its pretty standard.

Thanks for your advice. The website is pretty good. is there one for English phones?

Re contact switch. Alas I have over 500 contacts Sims only carry 90 contacts and all my contacts are saved on my phone. When I have switched from 1 smart phone to another its easy, u sync with your PC plug the new phone in and sync again. Hence all the contacts are saved on my PC. I just wanna know how to bring them from the PC to a new phone that is not a smart phone?

Cheers

For a lot of phones you can download sync programs from their websites (this was the case with the last two phones the other half got - Siemens SL55 and Samsung D500). Then it was just a case of connecting the phone to the PC that you've previously synced with your smartphone and hence has the contacts on it. This used to be a problem (£30 for a serial cable?!?) but with phones and PC's now supporting IR and Bluetooth that's easy now.

Short version, sync your contacts onto your PC and make sure you can get a sync software of data suite for free from the companys website before you buy the phone! :)
