Before I bought my Audiovox SMT5600, I read about great battery life. I'm not seeing anywhere near the claimed life in standby mode. I typically get about 10 - 12 hours in standby before I need a new charge. A few points:

1. I'm not running any apps in the background as verified in taks manager

2. I thought having bluetooth always on was the problem; it's now turned off

3. Backlight and display time outs are set very low

4. I talked to technical service and they said it was a faulty battery, so I replaced it

5. I conditioned the battery before first use as they suggested by fully discharging before charging.

Anyone have similar problems? What are the chances of it being two faulty batteries in a row? Anything else to look at that could be draining power?

What about the Infrared beaming?

I just turned beaming off after my first post and noticed it was still draining rapidly..almost as I was watching the system status screen. Maybe I need to cycle power after some of these changes?

Ok, so that wasn't it. Everything is off and I rechardged the phone to 100% again. Five hours later, with no usage, its down to 50%. What is going on?

You know, that happened to me a few weeks back and I couldn't figure it out either, so I drained the battery all the way down and charged up. Haven't had the problem since. Perhaps the electronics monitoring the charge level is faulty?

are you using the wall charger to charge your phone or the sync cable in your pc?

if your using sync charging then thats the problem. try to use the wall charger. :)

Well, I've drained the battery completely (4 times) and then charged overnight. The charger is the wall charger, not the PC cable. I turned it on at 7:45 this morning - 100%. I had a glimpse on my drive in to work. 8:45 - 85%. Something is still draining this.

Another update - I purchased the media net package from Cingular for unlimited internet access. The little 'G' for GPRS is always on in my home screen display. Is this always attempting to connect to the internet and if so, what is the remedy?

depends where the "g" symbol is: if it's on the signal strength indicator, it means there is currently an active GPRS connection. If it's not, then it just means you have GPRS available if you want it.

Actually, it's both - available and in use.

My sign in info is there, but the auto-connect box is not checked. I also tried this:

Settings, Data Connections, Internet connection (currently Cingular GPRS), edit connections, proxy connections. It showed the following - MEdia Net, wireless.cingular.com:80. I deleted it and cycled power - GPRS was not active, but I could not connect to the internet. I had to add this proxy connection back again, cycle power to regain internet access

I don't know if the C500 has just the same function as the O2 XphoneII, but on the xphoneII you can disconnect the GPRS by pressing and holding the home button for a second and the disconnect GPRS dialog menu will pop-up. just choose "Disconnect GPRS" and your disconnected. and it will automatically connected if you try to use GPRS. no more editing the Data connections settings. hope this will help you :)

That's what I need - a fast disconnect for GPRS. With the Audiovox SMT5600, pressing and holding the home button brings up my list of internet favorites. I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with Cingular tech support and they gave up saying they really don't know a whole lot about that phone. Can you beleive that? They don't know a lot about something they sell. They suggested I contact the manufacturer. There has got to be a better way!

More on this...it's got to be something in the network settings. A friend at work just got the exact same phone and is seeing the same thing - no way to disable GPRS

I'm having the same problem with my SMT5600, has anybody figured out anything yet. I have to plug up the phone every night there's no chance it is going to make it a whole 24 hours without a charge.

Stupid question-are you using the charger that came with the phone or an aftermarket one?

The phone was not letting me exit out of GPRS once enabled. Backup your phone and do a hard reset (Start, Clear storage, floow the instructions).

Then evertime you want to disable GPRS, tap the power button to bring up the Quick Launch screen, select flight mode, then do it again to turn flight mode off.

That worked for me.

I seem to remember seeing that hitting the phonecall end button (red) twice disconnected GPRS.

What have you got set for your ringtone/message tones?

Having large files, high quality .wma files for the processor to deal with absolutely destroyed my battery. Try using a midi, or a smaller .wma file.

I still get bad battery life, but not near as bad now that I've gotten rid of xbar. If your running xBar you may try disabling it to see how you battery life goes.
