Voice Recording settings

Does anyone know if it's possible to change settings for the built in Voice Recorder? I'm referring to the notes app that pops up when you press the record button on the side of most phones. If there's a way to change these settings through the registry that's good enough for me too... :) Two things I would like to change are input level (it sounds like it's recording too low by default) and sound quality.
