Just got a shiny new bluetooth GPS unit to go with my phone.

Only problem is that, although I've paired the unit and the phone (I believe so anyway , as the phone told me), Tomtom refuses to recognise that I have the unit, even though it now supports 'other' bluetooth devices.

Are there any other bluetooth settings that I should check ?

Anyone else had/having this problem ?

ta.

/me rolls the dice

you should ask tomtom ([email protected]) about this quoting your customer reference number, which is found on the invoice

or you can check to make sure the gps has bonded with serial ports or something like that

Isn't there something about needing "Traffic" or some other file, search for other posts, to make this work????????

Edit - A quick search revealed this.........

Thanks, I read that thread before, but I don't think the traffic update applies to TT5 as if offers the option to select which type of bluetooth device you're using.

Correct. Don't use the Traffic Update as it will break it!

As suggested before simply contact TomTom Support who will be more than willing to help :)

I had no-end of problems, TOMTOM support didn't help much either.. just pointing out that they couldn't give me 3rd party bluetooth specific help, but to just try turing the phone/gps off, repowering, and re-pairing..

Basically no matter how I paired the GPS, TOMTOM5 always said "No GPS Device".

I did fix it, but this may not work for you

1. Of course, check the obvious, TOMTOM5 is set to Other Bluetooth GPS, and that under START->CONFIGURATIONS->BT SERIAL PORTS you have inbound and outbound ports checked.

What I did

1. Pair the GPS and Phone normally, leave bluetooth switch on.

2. Launch TOMTOM5

3. Give it 10 seconds or so, then switch your GPS device off, then back on.. when I did this, TOMTOM suddenly 'paired' with it.. I entered the pass code again, and its been working normally ever since..

I think the key was power cycling the GPS a few seconds after TOMTOM had launched.

What I have noticed is that even normally, TOMTOM launches, and its says NO GPS DEVICE, then after 10 seconds or so the Bluetooth is enabled, and it then 'finds' the GPS,

This may/may not help...

I found the following guide, which although it refers to a specific GPS receiver, may provide some useful tips to get other makes to connect to TomTom.

Connecting or Reconnecting Fortuna GPS rcvr to TomTom 5 on a C500.

Start with neither TomTom nor the GPS reciever running.

Go to 'Configurations' folder/BT serial port setup, tick Com 6 and Com 7, click 'Done'.

Go back to homescreen, hold down 'Home' key to access bluetooth screens.

Select 2 (Bluetooth Setup), Select 1 (Bluetooth) Set to "Discoverable" Turn Fortuna on.

In Bluetooth screen select 'menu', select 1 (Devices). Select 'menu' 1 (New) to search.

It should find CLIP ON BT GPS select, enter passkey 0000 leave display-name as it is, click done. Go back to homescreen, start TomTom.

N.B. If the above doesn't work, then in bluetooth screen, before selecting 'menu' 1 (New), click on ALL your bluetooth connections shown and 'Delete' them, then continue with 'menu' 1 (New) to search for Fortuna.

If it STILL doesn't work, go to BT serial port setup as above, UNtick both ports, click 'Done' and exit. Reboot phone, go to BT serial port setup again and TICK both ports, click 'Done' and then proceed as before.

Incidentally, once you have your set-up working ok, you can exit TomTom and set bluetooth to 'Off' if you wish. TomTom cleverly switches it on when it starts and automatically resets it to its previous state when you exit.

TomTom support are worse than useless. I've never even got a reply when I've mailed them.
