I've had my SPV C500 since Xmas. Got to grips with most things, but this damn email is doing my head in.

I've unlocked the phone and am using a Vodafone sim card at the moment with Vodafone PAYT settings. My email is set up for my ntlworld email account. I can send and receive text, MMS messages, use GPRS and WAP and even connect to the internet BUT I cannot send emails.

I can receive them via my POP3 settings but when I send an email, I get a System Administrator message, Subject: Invalid message recipients, and then it moves the unsent message to the Drafts folder.

It does this with ALL emails I send so I know that it is not down to typo errors.

Please please please help me find my way. If you have any ideas please explain them in plain English. I know what I am doing but I need to get my head round this problem.

Thanks in anticipation.

Not sure what you've tried, so lets start with the obvious...

1) Post the error message you're getting so we can see if there are any clues there

2) Post your SMTP service provider details, and the settings you currently have, so we can check them. Don't post your password, and change your username a little, just for safety

3) Have you checked with your SMTP provider whether you need to use SSL? That had me stumped before because it's so well hidden

1) your message was not sent and has been moved to the drafts folder. the following recipients are invalid (what ever the e-mail address is)

2) smpt.ntlworld.com server type POP3 network (the internet) username @ntlworld.com

3) the incoming server (which works) has an check box for SSL connection

outgoing server has a check box outgoing server requires authentication

That looks like it may be the problem. If you're using Vodafone GPRS (I'm assuming there - apologies if I'm wrong) then you need to use the Vodafone SMTP mail server, rather than the ntl SMTP server to send email.

Sorry, but I don't have the settings you need, but if you can find them, or work them out, then you may have a solution. I guess you'll be looking for something like smtp . vodafone . net , or similar.

At the moment, ntl is not happy to allow your messages, because you're not connecting through ntl, but through Vodafone.

Hope this helps.

Pete.

Yes I am using Vodafone GPRS but isn't this just to allow me connect to the internet. If ntlworld does not allow me to send messages using Vodafone, why does it allow me to receive messages using the same settings?

This is where I start to lose understanding of how it all works, however, as you are connected via Vodafone, then you are using their servers to send your mail - you are not using the ntl servers.

You do, however, receive your mail via ntl's servers.

I think it's to do with them stopping people sending spam. Whatever, don't worry about the why's of it, if you can find out Vodafones SMTP server details then hopefully things will work okay!

Pete's right - it's a SPAM prevention thing, and using the Vodafone settings should sort it out.

The settings repository doesn't include SMTP settings, but you should find them on the Voda website

Hi!

What smtp are you using in your settings?

If you use a GPRS connectin, the SMTP server you shoud be using is that of your network operator. possibly send.vodaphone.net

Good luck

Hey guys I have a similar problem, would appreciate if you could help me out as well!

Im using a swedish email provider (spray) that is a part of Lycos. But I cant get it to work with Outlook in my phone, Im using a Qtek 8010 (spv500) with the latest Qtek rom.

I have all the account information from Spray, but it gets stuck on "connecting" and then I get the error message that either my connection or account information is wrong.

My GPRS works fine, Im surfing etc flawless, and the account info is correct because I tried it with Sunnysofts Email app and it worked without any problems.

Still, it seems that I cant get it to work with the inbuilt Outlook for the phone, which I rather use. PLease advice!

I've tried the Httpmail app aswell without any luck, dont know what ingoing and outgoing server to put in there since they use pop3 and smtp.

All help is highly appreciated!

Thanks

httpmail won't work for POP accounts

Where does the thing fail?

Can you download emails and not send?

(if so check your mobile providers SMTP settings)

Or can you not even download the emails?

(if so check your mail settings - might need SSL ticked for example)

Sorry, forgot to include that info, my bad Chucky.

My email provider do support pop3 and smtp, and I use pop3 and smtp for Sunnysofts Email application, and it works, so I know the pop3 and smtp info is correct.

I cant download nor send any emails from Outlook on the smartphone. It gets stuck on connecting, and then I get an error message that either my connection is not correct, or that my account info is incorrect.

My GPRS connection works, I can surf and use Agile etc.

My account info (pop & smtp) works with Sunnysoft so its not that either.

I tried both with SSL and without it.

I used to sync with AS and an Exchange server (other email address) but I have now removed all that info from AS. Still dont work though....:)

So it works with a 3rd party app but not with the built in Outlook, which is the one I prefer to use due to contact access etc etc.

Chucky, and anyone else, if you have any ideas etc, let me know, Im all ears.

Cheers

Toni
