Hey everyone

Ive got a little problem that I need help with! Im sure im not the only one as the lack of FULL GPRS on O2 payg is a little annoying sometimes to say the least!

Right.. well...

Using the o2 payg sim and the right settings it IS possible to get on most webpages using the following proxy and port:

193.113.200.195:8080

IF you use the C500 as a modem you can do the same on a desktop PC as long as you use the proxy above, and connect via GPRS and have access to most sites.

I then tried out using the same proxy on MSN messenger (on the PC) and BINGO!! It works great! You can sign in, send/recieve messages etc with no problems at all.

Ive tried and tested this time and again, and trust me, it works..BUT ONLY ON THE PC, NOT ON THE PHONE!!

Now for my question:

Does the "proxys" settings in data connections actually force MSN to use the proxy, or just Internet explorer?

Ive noticed that any other software (opera, agile messenger etc) dont use the proxy at all. It seems that only internet explorer will actully use the proxy.

SO.... how do I force Messenger to use this proxy and let me connect? Is there a registry setting??

A solution to this problem would help many people, and to my knowlege no one has asked this exact question before.

Any other comments would be appriciated!!

Many thanks!

I don't have my O2 SIM anymore but I think I tried this before and didn't work at the time.

The MSN Messenger application uses the Internet connection by default so you could try creating another O2 GPRS connection with 'Connects to Work connection' and then attach it the Internet connection. After that you can add a new proxy connection from Work Connection to Internet connection (for HTTP).

Didn't work me though :)

Nope. Just tried it and no luck!

Cheers anyway!

Any other ideas?

It seems that MSN on on windows mobile will ONLY use the "internet connection". So how do you then force the "internet connection" to use a proxy?

O2 has blocked access to the MSN server which the phone connects to hence why you cant connect. MSN on the phone also uses the same conection that PIE uses so it you set it PIE to connect through a proxy, MSN will but MSN will only work with a direct connection the the internet...not through the proxy.

MSN on the PC connects to another server which, up until recently, was not blocked.

There is no way to get MSN on the phone to work on O2. There are reg setting for the servers and i have changed them but it still doesnt work.

Same with agile yes. With opera you need to edit the ini file and add the O2 proxy. I posted about it before, have a search. Only works on older verison of Opera as the new verion doesnt use proxies.

what about o2 contract?

i think you need the "mobile web" service from o2 enabled on your sim, it starts from £8 a month i think... i "think" is automatically available when you have an o2 contract/pay monthly.

They do offer it... because they have to for the XDA which runs windows and msn etc, they cannot offer a phone with features that their network doesnt support that would be illegal :)

can I just say that I used to be on O2 PAYG with my C500 and they told me that I couldn't have access to MSN or POP3 email with their PAYG service.
