Here's the email i sent to orange today.....and ofcourse i will post their reply.

I have rang up orange data services (156) regarding my issue as i cannot seem to get any call when i am using my gprs, the support personnel said that normally the WAP/GPRS enabled phones would have a setting that would let the call thru, but SPV doesnt have one. I was told since its a smartphone, microsoft will provide support on this issue. I was given this (08706010100) number. I have rang up microsoft and they have told me that they DO NOT provide any support towards the SPV and the following webpage (http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/smartphone/club/support/manufacturers.asp) proves this.

As some one whos already dissapointed with orange for NOT PROVIDING all the advertised features on the phone, this is really a major concern as i cant browse the net as i am worried i may miss an important call. Please let me know how to solve this issue ASAP.

Iwouldn't have expected SPV support, as they did not have any part in manufacturing it. However i would have expected hem to provide support on SmartPhone OS

Although they did not manufacture it they have put the Orange name to it i.e. Orange SPV and so I would expect Orange to provide support for this phone.

But its just like a computer, if u buy a computer from PC World ot Tiny or some other company, and if the Windows XP that came with it has problem then its M$ that has to provide support not the company that sold u the computer. Well i would just have to wait for my reply on this.

They probably got confused when you asked for advice on the "SPV" and not SmartPhone OS specifically. Others have been turned down by MS in the past though so who knows...

I agree in part. If I bought a Dell computer from PC World then I would go to Dell for support but if i bought a PC World computer from PC World then i would go to PC World for support.

Problem is that MS provide the Smartphone OS for other companies to adapt for their own needs, with MS providing support for the developing company, not I assume for the final, individual and company specific output.

The company I work for is developing a product with MS WinCE but using none of the standard user interface dialogs, etc... We just want the features, hardware support, foot support and GDI. In this case, I'd not expect the user to go to MS for support.

Same for SPV really. It's definitely an Orange product.

The SPV is a Mode 2 GPRS device, what this means is(in theory) that any GPRS session will be suspended/held if a voice call is received but should resume when voice call ends. This only intermittently works on any of the U.K networks. A Mode 1 device is one which can support two concurrent connections, one Circuit Switched and One packet switched, no Mode 1 handsets currently exist. ;)

yeah but my problem is that it does not do that, and the caller simply has to leave a message in my answer phone, and all that time i will be browsing a page without knowing i've just missed a call.

I have finally received a reply for my email

Dear Janagan

Thank you for your mail.

I am sorry to hear about the problems you have experienced using the GPRS service on your SPV.

I can confirm that certain phones have an option that will allow the user to receive a call whilst on a GPRS session. However the Orange SPV does not have this feature which means during a GPRS connection on the internet etc you will not be able to receive a call, it would be routed through to the answerphone.

I trust this clarifies the matter.

Kind regards

xxxx

Finally orange has decided to give me a new handset and it works a treat.

Now when i get a call during a GPRS session, my phone lets the call thru.

Good news for you is that my tweaked firmware allow you to receive phone calls while u using gprs (is suspending the GPRS)

I'm still waiting from my beta users answer back about what bugs i left untoched :) and if they are happy with my fixes ;). But unfortunare none of them replay yet :D

As soon i get good answers from them I'll post a version for every one
