Guest thelondonthing Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 So I've had my M2000 for six months now, but until now I've used it only as a business phone, with my C500 for leisure. I decided a few weeks ago that I might as well use the M2000 to listen to music when I'm on my way to work, but when I tried to do this, I unfortunately discovered that the newer-style SPV hands-free kit supplied with the M2000 channelled all the sound through the right earpiece with no sound coming through the left earpiece at all. I tried my old-style SPV headset from the C500, but discovered that I had the same issue. Both headsets work perfectly in the C500 but not with the M2000. Having tried two functioning headsets, I also tried to change the bitrate of the MP3s, listen to WMAs, make voice calls, transfer the audio files to the M2000's own memory instead of from the SD card and probably one or two other things that I forget now. None of these efforts proved successful and each time, I got the same result with sound only coming through the right earpiece. After two and a half weeks of buggering about with Orange Shop and Orange Premier, they finally sent me a replacement handset. Delighted at having finally got the handset replaced, I expected everything to be fine... but it's not. I've got exactly the same problem as before. Am I doing something wrong here? Are there some hidden settings that I need to change, or have I been unlucky in getting two dud headsets from Orange? Please help me - this is driving me NUTS.

(for this see Dade's Review which is stuck at the top of the forum) secondly what did they replace? was it your handset or headset? as you've said both. I doubt it would a problem with the phone or the music that your trying to play, especially if they play in stereo on your pc (please note windows media player does not have an option to have mono only) Hope this narrows down your problem :)

Given that I spoke to four staff at my local Orange Shop, and no less than eight CSRs or techies at 150/448, and explained that I'd tried both, you might think that one of them might have mentioned that fact to me. I did say in my first post that they've sent me a replacement handset, though they replaced only the handset itself, I had to hang on to the stylus and battery and all the other accessories including the M2000 headset. Given that the C500 headset won't work with the M2000 as you very kindly pointed out, is it most likely that the real culprit here is the M2000 headset? This phone's been a nightmare since day one, and every time I try to raise it with Orange, I either get called a liar, a fool, or they stall me until I can't be bothered any more. It's almost enough to make me want a Nokia. Thanks very much for your help though - you've been far more use than Orange have in all of this. Edited July 4, 2005 by thelondonthing
Guest matt1971 Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Hi, Dont worry had all the same issues. I have my wma files on my SD Card ripped at 192kbs - no problems. I too had the issue of sound in one ear, bought loads of different adaptors, and have found these are two options: http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=118289 - When listening to music this one, allows the ringtone through the int mic and ear piece, and allows you to answer the call with the headphone still connected. When in a call you speak as you would normally do on the phone, but the sound from your caller is routed through the headphones. This one http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=PPCPADPT16 - is the same as above however you need to disconnect it from the M2000 when receiving a call otherwise your caller cannot hear you. This adaptor also features another socket for a 2.5mm headset - if you can cope with all the extra wiring. Hope this helps. Matt
Guest theanarch1st Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Well he shouldn't really have to buy an adaptor, as my headset which came with the device works perfectly. i am actually using it over the Btooth headset as that causes the No sound problem with the phone. I would advise a visit to your local orange shop and ask them to try a different M2000 headset, if they don't have one roll on over to the O2 shop and see if they have any there for the XDA version. (more likely as O2 seem to push these devices more than Orange)
Guest thelondonthing Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Really appreciate the help with this, chaps. Orange Shop have tried to be enormously helpful despite their incompetence; I'll make them my first port of call. Good idea on the O2 front; I'll pop round to them if/when things fail to move forward at Orange Shop. Many thanks for the assistance though.
