Guest nlk77 Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Hi there, I've already successfully uninstalled a few programs in my smartphone but there appears to have some folders in the local memory \Storage\windows\AppMgr which I can't even delete the folders. These are not Read-Only folders/files, they're the apps that I've installed earlier. But after I uninstalled it, I still find the folders in there. Can anyone please help on how to remove it? I've tried using the default File Manager to delete it, renaming the .tmp file to another filename.. all to no avail. I'm using Qtek 8020 ROM btw.

Try to open Drive C of your computer, click on Tools > Folder options > View tab. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=Attach...e=post&id=14249 Enable 'Show hidden files and folders' and unmark 'Hide extension' and 'Hide Protected operating system files'. Click Apply then close drive C. Open \Storage\windows\AppMgr folder, CUT folder/s from phone then PASTE to a folder on your PC.

Check the attached pic. I've did everything you mentioned here (in fact, I've already done it on my pc). Regarding Magnetic_dud's answer, I've also did it with Resco Explorer and the default File Manager, all unable to delete it. I cannot think of any other ways. Hope some of you have the answer. And thanks for replying ya!
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 I only encountered such error with an app-locked phone. :| Does all folders from AppMgr behave that way on your machine?
Guest chucky.egg Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Clean-up after removing apps seems to be an "optional extra" in the eyes of many developers, but this sounds like an intentional thing from MS. SmartExplorer can't delete "system" files (files with the System attribute set), so that might be the problem - but normally the built-in File Manager can do delete System files, so, err..., dunno! Have you tried re-installing and then uninstalling via ActiveSync? Failing that Hard Reset wins every time!
Guest Magnetic_dud Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 with my built-in file explorer i can delete everything, even files stored in \windows\ (but they aren't deleted, if you reload the folder, they reappears :)) I get an error if i try to delete a program which is in use.
Guest nlk77 Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Yesterday I found out one weird scenario... I was unable to delete any folders inside AppMgr but I was able to move them (the unwanted apps which I've uninstalled earlier) to Storage card. By doing so, I think I just have to switch the miniSD card and put on another phone/reader then I'll be able to delete them. But although I've moved the folders to the storage card, I still haven't had the chance to delete them because I don't have another phone nor a card reader with me!! :?: Yeah right, I've checked their attributes, all the files were marked with Archive and System. I've tried to uncheck them using default File Manager but still cannot. Using the File Manager, I can only move the folders but not deleting them as one of you mentioned here. How weird!
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 After moving them can you rename them from awkwardbugger.tmp to awkwardbugger.old ? This is sometimes the solution. Reboot the phone and then try and delete them. I'm guessing that this won't work either though :?:
Guest nlk77 Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Oh no that won't work either... I've even the filename to filename.tmp to filename.old or filename with extension.. it just won't work! arrghh.. Anymore suggestion??
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted July 6, 2005 Report Posted July 6, 2005 Can you try it on another machine? Install ActiveSync on a friend's machine :)
Guest nlk77 Posted July 6, 2005 Report Posted July 6, 2005 yeah I'm currently using two pcs to synch my stuff.. so on different pcs also.. but but.. the result stil the same. cannot delete, cannot move. I know it may sounds absurb to some ppl here but for those who using Qtek 8020 latest ROM on Xphone II, you knw it man. It's how sad and frustrating at times. Imagine you've 30 over apps in the AppMgr but actually only abt 20 apps installed.
