Guest DJHope Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 Various tips and tricks ive herd from various places and a load of SPV websites at the bottom!!! Hotmail on SPV: mobile.msn.com/hm/folder.aspx IRDA modem over GPRS: Use this inistalisation string, +cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0 Oranges WAP Site: wsp://wap.orange-today.co.uk Good Video Settings: Profile name: SPV Optimal Description: For SPV phone Audio bandwidth: 10 Kbps Audio codec: Windows Media Audio V8 Audio format: 10 kbps, 11 kHz, mono Video bit rate: 31 Kbps Video codec: Windows Media Video V7 Video size: 160 x 120 Thats the same as the chemical brothers video, so should work ok! SMS Issue (+44 071...) that annoying space: Ok now this seems really strange but believe me it works, its seems as tho outlook xp takes your LOCATION code, in our case +44, and places a space between it and the phone number (bugger that dosnt work on SPV). Now an intresting thing is if you use any other + number for example +45,+46 etc it DOSNT place this space. In order to solve these mearly change it, the registry key you need is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionTelephonyLocationsLocati n1 Obviously it may not be location 1 it could be anything you choose to name it however the key you want to change here is Country, simple wack in a differnent number, now outlook xp stops putting the space in REJOYCE! If you want to change 07 numbers export contacts to a csv file do a find and replace and change it to +44 as sugested previously! COMMENT: dont know if this works cause i havnt been able to try it! Various Websites: http://www.spvmobile.com/ http://www.acrossthewater.co.uk/SPV/ http://www.whatmobile.net/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=3 http://www.smartconfig.com/ http://www.modaco.com/ http://www.phm.lu/Products/Smartphone/RegEdit/
Guest Cent Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 I tried the location change (through control panels/modems though) tonight. It works like a charm. Suddenly all my spaces are gone. The export/import bit ... as I expected ... worked like a charm too. Just do this afterwards : export the contacts as Windows CSV open in Notepad replace all +44+Space with +44+NoSpace save & close notepad re-import All contacts changed. Due to the modem location fix there are no more spaces appearing.
Guest Anonymous Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 I've just tried this... I can't get it to work! I think I am being plain stupid... could you give me an idiot-proof guide to doing it? Are you saying I need to change to be in Zimbabwe or something and then the spaces go? If I do, they don't and it still does "+xxx 0777xxxxxxx" which is really annoying since the local number is still gioven a leading "0" so won't dial :-( Could you send me an example of what you did and what you get at the end of it? Thanks! David.
Guest Cent Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 Do this under Windows on your PC : -Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Phone And Modem Options -Select the New Location Entry -Click the Edit button -Under Country select one that doesnt interfear with your phone numbers -Change the area code to garbage too just to make sure -Press OK Button for the Edit Location Dialog -Press the Apply and then the OK Button for the Phone And Modem Options Now open Outlook XP and test it by changing any of your contacts and removing the space. It should now show you the number correctly when you modify it without adjusting it again. Now you will need to convert your whole list of contacts : - go to file/import & export in Outlook XP - export the contacts as file .... Windows CSV - open in Notepad - replace all +44+Space with +44+NoSpace - save & close notepad - go to file/import & export in Outlook XP - re-import by selecting this file Hope this helps. I am definitly sorted :D
Guest nightic Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 I find simply changing the region settings in Outlook (XP) does the trick for me. Just select a country and prefix of which you have no numbers originating in your contacts. This allows you to use the +441234567890 format each time, have it recognised for calls/sms and ensures that Outlook doesn't add the dreaded space between the international code and the rest of the number.
