Guest carl_donaldson Posted July 6, 2005 Report Posted July 6, 2005 HI guys i have an imate jam which i have just upgraded to the latest rom edition. I have tom tom 5 installed and im having some really really annoying problems. Firstly im having probs connecting a bluetooth gps to my jam - it can see the gps and i have added it as an outgoing port ( does this mean that it works on serial port 5 by default - dont really understand this). Secondly tom tom randomly just shuts and i am back to the today screen Thirdly i have had this working intermitantly. ggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i hate bluetooth! Cheers for any help anyone can give me - this is really pissing me off. Carl
Guest bertie_uk Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 Got my imate jam yesterday, and got TomTom 5 working last night. I presume you are trying to use it with a Bluetooth GPS like the Holux GR-230 (this is what I have) The way I set it up was: Turn on bluetooth on imate, turn on GPS. Click Add new device on imate and let it find the gps, and pair up. Will setup com ports, etc. Go to settings > system > bluetooth settings and click both com port tick boxes Start TomTom and get to GPS device setup. Choose Bluetooth GPS device and select COM4 Should be sorted! Other problem, could you be accidentally pressing the red hang'er down button? This takes you to the today screen from any app. Bertie
Guest dpembo Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 (edited) Secondly tom tom randomly just shuts and i am back to the today screen I've seen this. A soft reset usually sorts it. Bit difficult when your driving though :) Edited July 8, 2005 by dpembo
Guest thereaperman Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 if tomtom 5 keeps droping back to the windows screen, you need to replace the poi.dat file in the map folder with the one from tomtom 3, this will fix the problem.

Might try the poi trick to see if it works... thanks
Guest thereaperman Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 no problem, if you need any other help let us know :)

Guest thewordsman Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Go to settings > system > bluetooth settings and click both com port tick boxes Start TomTom and get to GPS device setup. Choose Bluetooth GPS device and select COM4 Bertie <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi guys, just got the Holux GR236. It'll pair OK, and appears on my Jam. But when I go into TomTom it keeps asking me to pair with a PPS reciever first. I select both inbound and outbound com ports, under Bluetooth settings, but when I go back in to that page the inbound (com4) is deselected. When I launch TomTom is says 'no GPS device', even though it's paired OK. any ideas? thanks a lot Ben
Guest thereaperman Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 you need to already have tomtom 3 for the poi file, but if a mod says it's ok i will post a copy here??

I've not actually installed the POI file for tomtom 5 yet (I presume you mean point of interest). thanks
Guest daedos59 Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 (edited) If you have access to e_mule then try searching for the TomTom 5.1 Bakoni POI Fix - certainly worked for me Edited October 7, 2005 by daedos59

Scuse me for being dumb though... it's a .RAR file. How do I indtall it. I've copied it into my TomTom folder on the Jam, but I can't figure out what to do next. thanks
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 RAR files have to be uncompressed (like ZIP files) and the files it extracts are what you need to copy over. There is a freeware RAR compression tool for PPC, but it might be easier to do it on your PC

But I can't get any to install. I'm either unpacking/unzipping them to desktop then trying to open and install from there. Some try to install, then there's a problem of some sort. Or, I've tried copying the files to the phone and openiung them their... either via the phone, or from explorer on the pc. am I missing summink?
Guest jim.mason Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 :o Using the Bakonl 5.1 POI Fix update solved the problem with TT dropping out to the homescreen. :( Problem I still have is that the home location keeps reverting to the default along with any warnings that I have set for POI's. Any ideas??????

Where do i find this 'switch' for writing to the SD card. Is it 'lock' switch on the card itself - if so then this is already unlocked. Have looked in the various directories and can't find any files at all????? Thankx in advance Jim
