Hey everyone, first post (woo!) --

I recently became a Smartphone user and I LOVE it! This phone is amazing. It's replaced my Sony Ericson T637, my Palm Tungsten T, and if SD cards keep getting bigger, I'll soon be able to ebay off my ipod!!

But here's my problem. I've searched high and low, far and wide for a solution and I've found nothing after trying everything. I've searched this board and ran through every post on the topic, as well as over the internet.

I just CANNOT get my GMAIL account to work properly on my phone.. at all.

I'm having the same problems TKJ and Dr. Who were trying to troubleshoot. It seems that topic was never really resolved.

----

STEPS I'VE TAKEN

- I setup Gmail using all the correct settings ([email protected]), both checkmarks on my settings for SSL, even added the correct port numbers. And YES I have enabled Pop access via Gmail settings on the web.

- I can view all my Gmail email via Outlook no problem (minus the fact that I recently reloaded my PST file and now I receive doubles and triples of all my gmails, as well as all my sent items in my inbox -- but that's an Outlook issue).

WHAT'S NOT WORKING

- I cannot download messages from 7 days ago, 3 days, or anytime in the past (or anytime in the future) from my phone. Not even just the headers, nothing.

- I tap on Send/Receive and it acts like it's doing something but it doesnt, just comes back blank and I cannot receive any email.

- I need to be able to have ALL my email ON MY PHONE (I can save to a storage card, correct?), but I cannot receive ANYTHING on my phone.

- In addition to getting email on my phone, I also want it to come to my desktop computer through Outlook (not one or the other). I've made the appropriate preferences changes to allow Outlook and Gmail to keep messages on the server after downloading/viewing.

Despite my greatest attemps at getting this working, I cannot seem to get past this step. If ANYONE has ANY insight as to fixing this problem and getting this working correctly, it would be GREATLY appreciated (TKJ or Dr Who, any ideas?).

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Take care, and see ya all soon as I began to populate the boards!

Maybe I am just lucky, but gmail works fine for me on my 5600 and I did nothing outside of the ordinary. I have not changed ports or anything. try this. use pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com, and do not check either one of the boxes. see if you have any luck with that. That is how mine is set up

I tried myself to do what you want to do, but the POP account settings in the phone are not configurable enough to do that. The best I could accomplish was to have new items download to the phone, but only if I set the account to download all mail (not 1, 3 or 7 days); also, when the phone downloads new mail, and you have read older items, they get cleared off the phone.

i think the standard pop programs on the 5600 are so fickle... i also have my gmail going to my phone, and i set it up to check every 15min but i dont think that it ever does. i come home get on outlook and i usually alwas have a few gmail emails... but if i go into the gmail account throught the phone and manually tell it to check it will usually download my currant emails... but it seams it wont do it on its own... :-(

Is there any software solution outisde Pocket Outlook/what's installed on the SMT5600 that can make Gmail work better than what's installed?

I had been using Gmail on my 5600 through pop access flawlessly for a while. Then after something was changed on GMail, I could no longer check the emails on the phone.

Currently, this is how I check gmail which is a round about way of doing it. I use NewBreak to subscribe to an RSS feed of my GMail. I have it checking at a regular interval and alert me when I get a new message. I can then check it using IE on the phone. GMail now supports it through basic HTML.

So like I said, it's a round about way of doing it, but it works (for now).

Is there any software solution outisde Pocket Outlook/what's installed on the SMT5600 that can make Gmail work better than what's installed?
