Some members, with the newer models containing the 4.2 ROM, have reported that their C500s will play MP3s as ringtones.

Try it and see if yours does ! :)

Yeah it's real easy if you happen to have somehow obtained the new update.

Tis true. The french ROM (4.2.2.1) and the leaked UK rom (4.2.1.1) both play MP3s as ringtones. I think the difference is WMP10.

Search on MoDaCo and u will find a tool to modify the file wich contains phone informations ,i managed to update ,however u can use wma as tones as a an alternative as quality is quite the same .Unfortunatelly i cannot give u more info as i do not have time 2 search .

I use wma for ring tones on my c500 and as they are smaller files I prefer them to wav and mp3s.

That's not your orange ROM version. Your orange version no is likely to be 4.1.1.4.

You can install the 4.2.2.1 french ROM - there are instructions on the forum. Unfortunately it change lots of settings to french ones and there is a very good chance that you will never be able to upgrade again. It can be a lot of hassle.

The 4.2.1.1 UK ROM hasn't got these issues - but it has not been officially released (and is *really* hard to find). As it has been leaked the legality of downloading it is debatable - it could count as piracy. With any luck orange UK might release it on their site soon.
