I have a hard time hearing my MPX220 when it rings, regardless of ringtone selected, or whether I select a "profile" of Normal or Outdoor. Is there some way to turn up the ringer volume? Also, if I set it to Vibrate, it vibrates 3 times but there isn't a Vibrate/Ring option that will Vibrate and then Ring, as many of the other Moto phones do. Is there some sort of s/w upgrade to address either issue?

Here are a couple of things that might help.

First, and this sounds dumb but many of us have been caught in it, (not me or course :^o )are you SURE you have removed ALL the little plastic protectors from your phone? They are seemingly endless, and cover the speaker, the earphone, the microphone and light sensors just to mention a few. Look carefully for them and remove them ALL!

Try editing the 'Normal' profile. You can do this by opening the 'Profiles' page by either briefly pressing the Power button, or by clicking on the blue 'Action' button when the 'Profile' is selected on the Home page.

Highlight the 'Normal' Profile and press 'Menu', then 'Edit'. After that, you can choose the type of ring option you wish, including 'Vibrate and Ring' that you are looking for. Set the 'Ring volume' to 4 or 'Loud' . You can do the same thing for the 'Outdoor' Profile which is even louder.

If this doesn't work, consider flashing the phone to the latest ROM version for your carrier. I don't know which system you are on, but MOTO offers an online updater for Cingular phones that is well worth using if your ROM version isn't current. If you're not on Cingular it's a bit more complicated.

You can check the ROM version by pressng the 'Start' key, then going to 'Settings'. Press 'About' and scroll down. There are a lot of versions to see here and the one that matters most is under the section titled "ROM update versions" The current update for Cingular gives you the following:

Operator: 0.480.1003.0

Manufacturer: 1.430.0.0

Microsoft: 4.21.15101.0

Language: 0.210.0.0

File System: 4.21.14315.0

This version is a big improvement over the one I had previously, which was a Manufacturer Version 1.30.0.0 (it's the 'Manufacturer ROM that matters most here)

Flashing the phone is not too difficult, particularly if you don't have a lot of data or

Programs that would be difficult to re-enter. If you decide to do this, look on this site and others for 'How to" guides. One critical piece of advice is that if you have a lot of programs and associated data you want to protect, purchase the CURRENT version of Sprite Backup (Version 2 or greater) and use the special option for backing up and restoring after a ROM update.

Good luck! and welcome to MoDaCo! I knew nothing about these phones 15 months ago and this site and the helpful members has saved my but over and over!

Thanks - very helpful. The "edit" selection on Profiles was not intuitive so I never stumbled across it on my own. As for updating the ROM, I'll probably hold off for now since I have a couple of applications installed that would make it more time-consuming.

Glad to be of some service. You're correct, it isn't intiutive. Unfortunatly that's the case for many of the features of the phone, and the 'Instruction Manual' is pathetic. I encourage you to use MoDaCo to solve any other problems or answer questions that you have. It's a really great community.

As for the ROM, you don't want to try it until you are confident you will get it right. Waiting a while is probably a good idea.

Welcome to the zoo!
