Guest beersoft Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 We think the fabled 4.2 update for the c500 is out, mikey86uk found a link on the Orange site It has all the things the French update has but is in English http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite...=Product#answer (no direct downloads)
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 There is already a download link on the Orange site: RUU_1.02_OrangeUK_v4.2.1.1_Ship.exe 23,083 KB
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Looking good but it appears that you have to be registered on the Orange site (needs to be confirmed), but as with all updates no direct linking will be permitted. EDIT It appears that if you do have to have the C500 as your selected device then go to Help and Support\ Features\ Download Software Updates\ and there you go :)
Guest mavisdavis Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Just D/loading it now :) From HERE :D
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Posting a link to the download page is cool, just not to the actual file :)
Guest mavisdavis Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Strange that. I copy n pasted the address bar . never mind You'll find it

Guest MarkH Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 (edited) I just did a "diff" between the one that leaked onto usenet and the one just released by orange - i'm pleased to say they are 100% identical 8) (at least i wont have to re-flash my phone and re-install all the apps yet again!) - So this means the file was ready weeks ago - even orange have shipped it on new phones so they can't really claim they needed extra time for testing - I guess they just like to offend their long term customers for no aparent reason? Guest digger Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Does this require a Hard Reset? Like the other ones do?
Guest MarkH Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Does this require a Hard Reset? Like the other ones do? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> the new ROM wipes everything from your phone (as always...)
Guest atonks Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 It's been so long coming...... remind me again why I need WMP10. Thanks.
Guest MarkH Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 (edited) It's been so long coming...... remind me again why I need WMP10. Thanks.  <{POST_SNAPBACK}> because it has a slightly larger number than "9"!? :-) but mainly as it lets you have mp3 ringtones, synchronising music from the PC WMP10 is now automatic, and you can fast-forward within songs/podcasts (which is fairly essential) Edited July 11, 2005 by MarkH
Guest renegade722 Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 I'm still a little confused about this new ROM, so I'm going to ask a few questions... Can someone please just give 'simple' answers i.e. Yes / No or n/a. Thank you. If I install this new ROM: 1. Will my phone still be application unlocked? 2. If No, will I be able to application unlock it as I did before using the orange website? 3. Will my phone still be SIM card unlocked? 4. If No, will I still be able to SIM unlock it as I did before for free (thanks to software developers for that :) ) TYIA
Guest tbl Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 I'll wait till someone can answer all of renegade's questions!!

Guest renegade722 Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Great, that is very useful and 'exactly' what I wanted to hear... Thank you very much peekie :)

Guest Pondrew Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 anybody no if i have to update anything or update the licence ? for more info please look at my last post <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry Mikey, no idea as I've never bought my music off the net. Guess I'm a little behind the times in still heading for Virgin Megastore! :)
Guest bluesmudge Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Hey stupid question but... As alot of people i had the preview of the english version of this rom from usenet, and i saw that a previous post states this officially released rom is exactly the same BUT is there any confirmation of this, and if i flash this new offical ROM onto the phone will it make any diffrence? I've never had any problem with the preview ROM, so if there is no diffrence then i won't bother. Oh i better expand on what i mean by diffrence - can orange tell the diffrence?
Guest davidhorn Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Are they limiting download speeds? I'm only getting 24KB/s on my 2mbit ADSL connection.
Guest niai Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Hey All, I've got music to sync with WMP but when I try to convert video I am informed that WMP is unable to convert to the format needed by my device. Any ideas?
