Guest tomwright Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Having some problems here. I sitting in an internet cafe, about 2m away from the wireless access point - my M2000 connects to the network no problem (it's an open access network - no security), but wheneve I try to use an internet application, the phone starts trying to connect over GPRS! However it doesn't even do this properly - it tries to connect for a few seconds, then stops, then tries again, then stops and nothing happens. My GPRS settings work fine when I'm not connected to a WAN. What's going on? Has anyone experienced this problem before?... Many Thanks! Tom
Guest JTHM Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Tom I connect to the internet through my home Wi-Fi network regularly. The key is under Settings - Connections tab - Connections - Advanced tab - Select Networks. The setting for 'Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:' should read My Work Network. I've never managed to get the thing to default to using wireless when available and automatically connect to GPRS when there's no wireless network. JT
Guest jsisson Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 I deliberatly damaged my gps settings, so i could only use wireless access points (cause im a cheapskate!!), but the phone still tries to connect sometimes. Have you made sure that your phone has found the network and listed the details on the 'wireless LAN Manager' screen, prior to running your email explorer? I have had very limited success with accessing random networks, other than my own. best results have been networks in pubs, the ones that charge, but some of them will allow free access to students with university email addresses! I have only managed to get into somones home access point once, but i had to stand outside their house for about 2-3 mins for a successfull conection!
