Guest JesseRPI Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 (edited) After many frustrating hours of not being able to get online using my laptop and Cingular's Connection Manager software via bluetooth, I have finally discovered how to successfully access the Internet. The solution is actually pretty simple... 1. Pair your phone with your bluetooth enabled laptop of choice. 2. On the laptop, right click on the bluetooth icon in the bottom right corner of your screen, and select "Quick Connect". Then move your mouse up to "Dial-up Networking". At this point you will either see the SMT 5600 listed, or you may have to click on "Find devices...". Either way, the objective is to connect to your SMT 5600 using this menu. 3. Once you click your device to connect, you will see a series of screens displayed that will install the bluetooth modem and configure anything else necessary. The great part about this is that you get to sit back and watch, as it's all automated. 4. Once step 3 is complete, right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". Go to the "Hardware" tab and select "Device Manager". From there you will want to press the "+" next to "Modems" and double click on "Bluetooth Modem". Go to the advanced tab, and type in this exact string and press OK: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.cingular" 5. At this point, I would recommend restarting your computer. At the very least close any pending connections that may be trying to use the bluetooth modem. 6. Right click on "My Network Places" and select "Properties". Right click on "BluetoothConnection" and select "Properties". In the "General" section, type *99# as the phone number to dial. Go to the "Options" section and make sure that "Idle time before hanging up" is set to "never". Click OK. 7. Go to the bluetooth icon in the bottom right of your screen and right click on it. Once again, select "Quick Connect" and choose "Dial-up Networking". You should now definitely see your device listed - click on it. You will be prompted to enter a username/password. The username is [email protected] and the password is CINGULAR1 . Note that this is case sensitive. 8. Connect, and within seconds you will be browsing the Internet at rip-roaring 56k! Enjoy! (PS - If anyone has figured out how to can connect a laptop to the SMT 5600 via bluetooth serial, please let us know by posting. I have already created both an incoming and outgoing COM port on the SMT 5600, but my laptop does not see those ports. Thanks!) Edited July 12, 2005 by JesseRPI
