Guest sxywill2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 OK heres the story, last year I bought a Medion notebook. Unfortunately I tripped over the cables and my laptop fell on the floor breaking it. So I look at the warranty and... 1. It doesn't cover accidental damage 2. It ran out a week before So I ring up my insurers who said they would replace it. They said that I would need to send it off to Dixons to see if they could repair or replace with a same spec model. Dixons replied by saying it was a too high spec to replace for the budget of £1000 which I bought it for. So my insurers said that I would now have to find the same spec so they could get it for me. My Medion Laptop runs on: 3 GHz P4 512 MB RAM 60 GB H/D DVD-RW 64 MB GeForce FX 5350 15 Inch Screen Integrated TV tuner 54 MBS WI-FI Windows XP Home There the main specs but I am having trouble matching it as of the intergrated TV Tuner. Please reply with a link to a laptop you find to be of a simular/same spec for under £1000 I have found these: http://www.higrade.com/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=3329 http://laptops.tiny.com/computers/power_la..._PowerLite_G910 If I can't find the same spec what should I say to my insurer?
Guest Madeye Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 I did pretty much the same thing a few weeks ago and my insurer said the same thing to me... I chose one from Acer and I'm very very happy with it. Just thought I'd suggest that. Also the one I chose had a 64bit AMD Athlon 3400, 512mb RAM, Geforce graphics, 80gig HD, CD/DVD burner, 54Mbps WAN, built in card reader etc (no tv tuner) all for around £850. Not bad. The only other thing I can suggest is asking the insurance company to get you a similarly spec'd laptop and a pcmcia tv tuner card seperately. That might not be ideal tho. I dunno, good luck anyway! :)
