Guest bvmagic Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 hey, i'm new to the whole smartphone concept. and i seemed to have done something wrong. i found out where to put mp3 files to use as ringtones. and at first it was working fine. but i messed with my phone for a little bit, and now it doesn't play the mp3's for ringtones. i installed a couple programs, betaplayer, agile messenger, and fizz monitor. my phone is an audiovox smt5600. any idea where i went wrong? and is there a way to reset my phone back to stock settings? thanks
Guest Madeye Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Have you tried deleting the mp3's and putting them back again? I can't see it being a problem with anything you've installed but you certainly can return to factory settings... just search the forums for hard reset instruction! I take it u have WMP10? Good luck...
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 The problem may have been caused by BetaPlayer taking over the association with MP3 files. I imagine that you need to associate MP3s with WMP for them to work as ringtones. You can change associations in Binarys' Smart Explorer and I can't think of another way to do it :?:
Guest maelthra Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 (edited) Hi all, I've recently purchased an SMT 5600 and I absolutely love it! Recently, I've had the idea to create custom ringtones for my contacts ( or groups ) by either editing .mp3s or creating my own -- but there's a problem. I can't seem to find an option ANYWHERE on the phone that allows you to assign ringtones to contacts. I have seen other, much less sophisticated phones do this -- I know there has to be a way. Does anyone care to point me in the right direction? Also, are there any easy ways to get more caller I.D. templates short of creating your own? Thanks in advance, Maelthra Edited July 14, 2005 by maelthra
Guest Madeye Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Go to contacts, highlight one, click edit then scroll down te menu to about halfway and you'll find "custom Ringtone". :) Try here for caller ID screens, click on skins then search by type "pit".
Guest maelthra Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Thanks for the advice, luckily I figured out my problem before I got around to checking these forums again. Here's what was going on: I had a loaner phone for a couple of weeks while I waited for my SMT 5600 to come into stock and during that time I added most of my contacts. I copied it all to SIM and then trasnfered phones. I was then working with SIM contacts and the only options you have with them are basic ones such as name and number. I had noticed that the few contacts I had added were ON TOP of the transfered contacts and so I searched around for a way to alphebetize them and then realized that they were different types of entries and then I found the option for custom rings... the rest of the story writes itself: I've had fun pairing my friends and family with funny custom rings.
