Guest Benzyg Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Hi, I can't understand how to operate the spv so that I can connect and disconnect my GPRS data connection ,manually. As for now, I am running the internet browser and it is establishing the connection. How can I control the connect/disconnecting to the GPRS connection? -- Thanks ============================ Benzy Gabay R&D Maya Software Technologies Ltd. http://www.maya-st.com
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 It'll connect whenever you use any GPRS app. The only exception is when trying to "automatically" register All-Explorer it doesn't get it right and if you've connected by using something else first it works... To disconnect press the hangup key, otherwise it'll disconnect at some stage when it feels like it (timeout?)
Guest alexknight Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I find the dropping of the connection between webpages annoying - i always sign in to MSN before a long browsing session - the time taken to sign in is worth it cos the GPRS stays connected instead of hangging up between links!!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I think the mail checker creates a new connection when it does its thing. Which requires it to disconnect when its done...maybe. Weird and anooying one, roll on 3G

I had the same problem, but solved it by changing one of the settings. Goto Settings - Data Connections. Click the Menu softkey and change the value under Idle disconnect after to 10minutes. Note that the value None does not refer to Never, but actually disconnects as soon as no data is being sent or received.
Guest quistis2k Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I was on a site that spoke about how I could surf GPRS for free, if I piggybacked my internet connection on my PC using the SPV in the cradle. Now I cant get MSN or IE to work on my SPV. Help me to return settings to ones that actually work!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 "Automatic" doesn't work once you remove your SPV from the cradle, which is a pain. Under data connections, you want to select "The Internet" under GPRS connection if you want to use passthough to access the internet from your PC's connection. You then need to change this back to "Orange GPRS" once you reomove it from the cradle for normal GPRS to work correctly
Guest Danlance Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Automatic does work once you remove the SPV from the cradle, if you change the ORANGE WAP connection to connect to WAP instead of the internet - otherwise it tries to use the WAP connection to conect to the internet - and fails. I've no idea if this breaks WAP (probably) but that doen't bother me too much, as the only useful service on wap for me is the "Where's my nearest" service - which does not work on the SPV ;)
Guest zenabi Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Step-by-step instructions on how to get the Automatic function working properly: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2274
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Ta, never thought to look for configuration options in data connections ;)
Guest Tyrant_worm Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 "Where is my nearest?" should work if Circuit Switched WAP is used, but will not over GPRS.
