Advice for a newbie to limit dust problem

I have an Audiovox SMT 5600 scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I've been reading about the dust issues and have no idea if Audiovox is currently shipping units where this problem has been resolved.

if there are different generations, some worse than others, can you advise me how to determine what generation unit I receive?

secondly, are there things I can or should do to keep the dust under control? I'd prefer to avoid opening the case to do the dust fix that has been posted for warranty reasons.

u can reduce the dust problem by using protective cases.

the only way to stop dust on all models is not to put the phone in your pockets! thats the only sure way.

unless you fancy doing am internal fix with blutac.

Do screen covers tend to help at all, as I am too lazy/thrify to cover the rest? And are there any recommended ones? I tried a Palm covering - useful if only to protect from scratches - and am very disatisfied with my resulting picture quality.
