Anyone know how to quickly end a GPRS session for the Audiovox 5600? All other suggestions for other phones (end call button, others) do not work for the 5600. The only way I have found to work is to toggle flight mode on and off, but this is a bit cumbersome.

While at the homescreen area, press hard on Home button until you see this...

I've tried that one. With the Audiovox SMT5600, pressing and holding the home key from the start screen brings up my list of internet favorites.

I stumble across new things in a desparate attempt to learn more. Ok, some people who have the same phone can end GPRS with one key, I cannot. I found this morning that if I am in an active session and I go into settings - data connections - and change my internet connection from Cingular to automatic or the other way around, the GPRS connection is immediately terminated. As soon as I start another session, the problem is back.

Is this clue telling you anything of value or am I just grasping at straws?

I think it's just straws, but it's more than we have now. I would too, also like to know how to end GPRS with out going into Flight Mode.

The programming of the Home Key is operator specific - hence on the Orange C500/C550 you get End GPRS or Bluetooth but on the SMT5600 you get internet favs.

The reason Orange put it on the home key is because without it there is no easy way of ending GPRS - going in to flight mode is one way or getting it to search for a new network is another - I can't think of any other way off the top of my head.

The reasoning behind this is that you shouldn't need to disconnect from GPRS as you are only charged fro data transfered not connection time, but after hearing of people receiving massive GPRS bills I'm glad I have the option!

Good luck.

It's not the big GPRS bill that concerns me as I have the unlimited data plan. The rapid drain on my battery is the big problem for me. Guess I'll just continue the extra button pushes to get around this.

not sure if i'm just missing something here, but i've got a C500 on orange, and if i want to disconnect GPRS, i can either use the home key shortcut or press the red 'end call' button. the little 'G' icon in the top right of the screen then switches off, and i have no further connection. not sure if it's the same as the 5600, and it seems a bit too obvious, but maybe that'll work?

Here's a way to add the stupid shortcut menu onto the SMT5600... it's pretty easy actually...

1. Connect your phone to the computer, so you can access it from your computer.

2. In "\Windows" there is an .exe file called "quicklist.exe". If you can't see it, make sure your version of Windows is set to display hidden files... if you dont know how to do that, look it up!!!

3. Right click on the "quicklist.exe" file, and create a shortcut... which you will now find at the bottom of the screen.

4. Copy your newly created shortcut to "\Storage\windows\Start Menu"... which will make it appear as one of the installed programs. You can rename it to whatever you want... initially, the shortcut created is "shortcut to quicklist.exe"... I just renamed it to "Quicklist".

5. Now, go to the "Start" menu on your phone, find the "Quicklist" listing, and click "Menu". You'll be able to assign a speed dial to it. I know it's not as fancy as holding the Home button, but it works.

Enjoy!!!
