Guest steverust Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 :) I have just had an SPV M2000 and have been having a few problems with it. I have found that ocasionally it freezes resulting in me switching off the device on the top and removing the battery then replacing the battery and switching it on again. This causes all the current data to be lost resulting in me having set up yet another Active sync qaccount to restore all the data from my PC. Am I doing something drastically wrong?? Would I be better off using the reset button at the bottom?? It's causing me a nightmare because I don't want to change the battery if it is going to constantly need data reprogramming HELP!!
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 I've no experience of the M2000 but have read reports of the Magician (M500 etc) hard resetting itself when the battery is removed. This seems to be what has happened in your case. I've also read that this is caused by the little plastic lug that clips over the battery. It's late so I'll leave it to you to read the bit in the manual which tells you about this :) You are right though to suspect that the best way to handle a lock-up is to use the 'soft reset' button at the bottom. I actually soft reset my Jam a couple of times a day just to keep the device fighting fit. Or because I'm anal. If I'm installing software or playing buggy games like Fruit Frolic then I'll soft reset several times. Be careful not to be touching the power button at the same time though as this is the standard hard reset procedure. You might want to look at Sprite's backup software as this will create self-restoring files for when you're away from your PC.
Guest Big_Dogg123 Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I just got an O2 XDA IIs on Saturday there. It's a HTC Blue Angel (same device as M2000) and I've been having the exact same problems with mine. I was advised by a guy on this forum that it was the O2 active software which is unstable, but obviously that isn't the cause as your having the same problems with the Orange software. I've had to do less soft resets by using the "Running Programs" app to close all running apps and free the memory. But even now, my device freezes every morning when I take it off my cradle. I have to do a soft reset then, followed by a few throughout the day. Also, the battery life is terrible on mine, but I think that's the same for all Blue Angels.
Guest Pondrew Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 As Stu says, some software can make the device more unstable. Lock ups when detaching from the cradle is definately NOT normal behaviour. I next to never have to reset my device although do remember how Bluetooth manager used to regularly lock it up when I was running the original T-Mobile rom. Could it be that?
Guest Pondrew Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 @Big_Dogg123: Is your device hard resetting itself too?
Guest Big_Dogg123 Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 No, thankfully it isn't hard resetting. I haven't used BT at all on this phone yet, so I doubt it's that. Are there any guides you can point me towards, regarding stable ROMs and how to change? Cheers

Guest Big_Dogg123 Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 Yeah, I was up to about 5am this morning trying to update my ROM to the 1.4 O2 Asia one, but kept getting the Country ID error, even when using the MaUpdate tool thing, so I :?: called it a night, and re-installed all my apps etc. So I'm back to square one LOL. I will have another attempt at upgrading to the O2 Asia 1.4 ROM (maybe this evening when I have some spare time!), but I'd be greatful if you could give me any advice, as I didn't receive a response on XDA-Dev. Although, I understand you don't want yourself becoming responsible for any damages etc. that may be caused. But belive you me, I'm takin the risk and I'm not worried! LOL. I had WMP 10 on my C500, and its doin my head in having to get used to WMP 9 again, on this! Cheers
Guest Pondrew Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 Well, I've heard of other people getting the Country ID error on using the MaUpgradeUt_noID but what I was told is that if it does it you should just repeat and it'll work. EDIT: Found mention of an HTC Magician user having the same problem. Have a look. click here
