EDIT: yes, yes, i know, i'm sad, i read harry potter Edited July 20, 2005 by confused and hungover
Guest mupwangle Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I finished it on Sunday. Better than the last one.
Guest confused and hungover Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 i felt quite depressed after finishing it... it's like, dumbledore dies with 2 chapters to go, you think, oh, it'll be ok, 2 chapters is plenty of time for them to go back in time and save him or the pheonix will save him or something similar... then it's his funeral, then the book ends. ??? WTF
Guest mupwangle Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Yeah, I thought that too - but I'd heard that one of the central characters was going to snuff it so I wasn't that surprised.

Guest mupwangle Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 >>i think the locket that harry has is a dumbledore horcrux. Mibbe. I doubt it though - after the whole thing about diminishing the soul and stuff. Who's got the real horcrux though? I thought it was quite obvious that the book was written recently (other than the fact that I knew that anyway!). Some of the ministry of magic stuff was oddly similar to recent UK government anti-terrorism stuff.
Guest nedge2k Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Heh...i need to bring my misus in here, she been glued to that book for the last two nights. She had this almost tearful look in her eye last night as she said, "i know who dies now...it's Dumbledore"

I even made my 10 year old daugther by the adult/mature cover version of it :-)
Guest confused and hungover Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 ok how about this.... just before dumbledore was killed he begged for something from snape, maybe he wasn't begging for his life but for harry's life. snape would have seen the extra broom and put 2 and 2 together... then snape stopped one of the death eaters performing the crusious(ciou?) curse, it would have have been easier to knock HP out and carry him off to voldermort. second... what if harry potter himself is one of voldermorts horcrux? it would explain why harry is so powerfull and also why it buggered voldermort up so much when he kiledl HP's parents. maybe. also the whole harry potter hearing voldermorts thoughts thing could because he's a horcrux, and the prophecy, one must destroy the other and all that. just some of my head ramblings from this week.
Guest tonijj Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Well I dont think that HP is a horcrux, because it was explained in the previous book that some of Voldemorts powers were transfered into HP when he tried to kill him, but interesting thought though. However, I thought that Dumbledore ought to have a horcrux as well somewhere hidden, seems a bit easy that Snape just finished him off (never trusted that snearing b**stard :) ) but on the other hand, then Dumbledore had to have killed someone, not in his nature I think.... Furthermore, I was a bit surprised that he died two chapters before the end, that was mentioned in this thread, and still they didnt use the time thingy, whats up with that?? A bit odd if you ask me..... Still, I think that the previous book was better, this one transported you at times very quickly from month to month, and the dusts between Malfoy and HP was like vanished, a lot of threads from the previous books were lost in this one. But, he snogged Ginny, who would have thought! ;)
Guest Jamma14 Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Lol, yeah I preferred it to the last one but Dumbledore died too easily, he's meant to be a legend of a wizard and jst does nothing :s. Poor dumbledore... :) Any1 have any ideas who R.A.B is?? I've heard ppl thinking it is a regulus black (sirius' brother) but I thought he was dead or something... Anyways guess I'll jst have to wait to the next one (but I wanna read it now lol). Yeah on that note, anyone have an idea of the release date of the seventh book??
Guest mcwarre Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 I am not a party pooper but I have not read a Harry Potter book, or watched Big Brother (or any reality TV show) and I feel that my life is not worse off.......... :)
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 ..and I can add to that in that I watched 30 minutes of the first Lord of the Rings film before deciding that I had better things to do with the time :) It's good that people are reading books though. I think that is very important. You will not get the same experience by watching the film.
Guest scm7rap Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 I've read all the books and think they are good. They have also been good for childrens literature (although whether you can class them as literature is debatable) as sales of childrens books have risen huge amounts since HP started. There also seem to be a rising number of childrens books that are read by adults as well - The Amber Spyglass and all those wierd ones, even Pratchett is writing Discworld novels aimed at children. As for Dumbledore dying - dissapointing. He was such an obvious choice I thought it would not be him because of Rowlings love of red herrings and twists. Of course he isn't really dead as such, as his portrait will be in the headmasters/mistresses office and so he can still advise Harry. Hmm. Obi-Wan and Luke anyone? Next thing you know, Snape will turn out to HP's father and HP's destiny is to kill Snape to replace him at Voldermorts side!! Or maybe not :-) But I don't think we've heard the last of Dumbledore.

Haha, well thats a theory that would make millions of children cry their eyes off ;) You should ask Ladbrokes or some other betting firm what odds you could get for that one :)
Guest zero_divide_1 Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 I'm 20 and I can't read anything but Harry Potter and stay focused. Its just compelling to me like that. But, yeah, the whole Dumbledore dying thing pissed me off. I always considered Dumbledore to be the best example of Harry's support against Voldemort, and also the voice of reason. Now how's Harry gonna think straight? But what really confuses/worries me is whether the 7th book, or "Year 7" in the series, will take place at Hogwarts? At the end of this book Harry said that he wasn't going back to Hogwarts, and Ron and Hermione agreed to go with him wherever he went, so what's going to happen then? I don't know, I have mixed feelings about this book. One part of me likes it because of all the twists in the entire storyline of the series and think it will be interesting to see how it all wraps up, but the other part of me hates it because Dumbledore dies and the uncertainty of whether or not the next book will even take place at Hogwarts. We can only wait and see....
Guest Sir Max Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Ive read all of Harry Potter. Its nothing to be ashamed about its a very good book. If you havnt read it you really should do when youve got some spare time :) I know who dies ;)
Guest mcwarre Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 Of course he isn't really dead That's because he is not real. Sorry to spoil any illusions :) ;)
Guest Gorskar Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 I didn't know anyone was going to die in this book before I started reading, and when it turned out to be Dumbledore it didnt shock me anywhere near as much as the last book - it was just "ok shes started killing main characters and its another one, blah blah blah. Basically anyone who could be Harrys father figure seems to be fair game. X1- Black (most obvious father figure) X2- Dumbledore (again most obvious father figure) X3- whoever turns out to be the most obvious parental figure this time - my guess would be Mrs Weasly very disappointing as it seems to be simply aimed at tear jerking these last couple of books. I'll still get and read the last one when it comes out though, as the writing style is very compelling.
Guest ShaneBoyd Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 This was one of my favorites. I really like how it setup the last book to be Harry finding himself away from Hogwarts.
Guest C00LH4ND Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 I am also an avid fan and a number of my colleages are also fans I am a Jnr Exec for a major global IT Company. I got into it after listening to a couple of power dressers behind me in Virgin Upperclass one day on a return flight. They were both in their 40s and from the conversation solicitors or Company lawyers. I thought if they enjoy a childrens book then I too must look into this... Hooked... As for who is dead... We did not read that Sirrius Black died. He went through the arch. I summise he will return....
