C500 Audio sounds like a Sci-Fi movie

Hey guys,

I have a Qtek 8010 (C500) and have a problem. Sometimes when I talk on the phone, the other end hear my voice in what they refer to as "a sci-fi movie sound" (therefrom the topic name). Basically it sounds metallic and hollow I suppose, a bit "robotic". It doesnt matter whether they call me or if I call them up, still the same. It doesnt happen all the time though, but ocassionally.

I've been reading on the dustproblem form the c500 for the screen, could it be something similar for the audio/radio then? If so, anyone got a guide to clean the speaker or such? (Not the one for cleaning the screen, even though thats a great guide)

Please let me know if anyone experienced anything similar and/or solutions to this problem

Thanks!

perhaps once or twice, on various phones. Assumed it was a network problem, reconnecting to the network (turn off/on again) usually works..

I have been having this problem with a C500. People tell me I sound like a "dalek". It will last anything from 10 sec to 2-3 mins and will then clear. It is on my company phone and I have now had 8 replacements from Orange (2 brand new) in the last 2 weeks. They have also changed my sim but I still have the problem.

It will do it on out going and incoming, but not all the time.

Sounds exatcly the way I have it. Well its either coverage problem or something else, did they say what it could be, over at Orange?

I have now left talking to Orange to my company as I'm getting a bit feed up with it. There are lots of us with the C500, and as a test I have put my sim in another phone (all OK), someone elses sim in my phone (Dalek again). So it is not the sim, and after 8 phones may be not the phone!!

One thing that I have noticed though is that all the phones I have been sent have all come with the ver 4.2.1.1 ROM, so don't know if that is the problem, as I have checked with others phones and they are all the older version.

Well I have the latest Qtek Rom in mine which actually stated "Improved Radio" :D

I've done the same test as you, used to have the same sim card in my old SE T610, never had that problem. I know that some other people had this problem as well. Have Orange talked to HTC regarding this? There has to be an explanation to this!

Keep me updated will ya :)

I have just had a call from my company, someone from Orange Technicial Dept is going to call me, as they have the same problem at another company. I will let you know what happens.

New to the forum - having a rant. Picking up topics on noise issues. Have just finished very frustrating call with Orange denying any responsibility for on-going whistling/background howling during in and out calls. They say the issue is down to HTC to fix, they will not replace handset and if it was another c500 it would have the same issue.

Even though its a known issue and they are waiting a s/w update from HTC, we will have to wait for the fix and make do with sub-standard conversations. They claim no-one else has raised the standard of the call as an issue? I have the option of having a phone that I can hold a decent conversation on but I’d have to pay £50 for privilege.

I have spoken to our Orange rep, who has told me the other company she it in contact with have the same problem.

I have now been given a new phone BUT it has the old rom version, and so far I have not had a problem. It look to me like the problem is with the new Orange rom. Tonijj do you have a line 2 on your phone? as I have and don't know if it is the combination of new rom and line 2?

Line 2? Pardon me for sounding totally dumb here, but what is line 2? U mean if I got 2 sim cards/numbers or...?

Well, I dont use the Orange Rom since Im using Vodafone and Qtek, so I got the latest Qtek rom.

However, when a friend called me the other day, and said that I had problems with the sound, I pumped up the volume to max and the problem dissaperad. Dont know if that was the ultimate solution, but next time someone comments on the sound, I'll try that again to see whether that was just a one-time thing or so. Also, if I reboot the phone, I didnt have that problem. So I assume its a software setting problem, and not hardware, but its just a guess....

Get back to me on that Line 2 thing, lets really try to locate and identify whats causing this.

Cheers

Line 2 is two numbers on one SIM. As it's a company phone I have my own line on the same phone (saves carrying two phones around!!)

Any update on this one? I have the same problem and might investigate going back to the old rom - although heaven knows how that will go.

The problem with the voice does normally go away if I remake the call or ask caller to call me back!

Since I have been using the old ROM I have not had any problems. The sound going away if I redialed is the same as I had.

Same here, always goes away if I redial or if the caller calls me back.

One thing I've noticed though is that it most of the times occur when Im listening to music with my headphones and then unplugs them to answer the call. Don't know how that affects it, but thought it was worth mentioning.
