Proper Network Detection and decent SMS

I travel to Switzerland a lot and into the mountains (by the way I can get better signal strength at 3,000m up a mountain surrounded by snow than in London surrounded by transmitters ;) ). Unfortunately the phone loves selecting SWISS GSM as its home network even when you specifically deselect it and select Orange under preferred network settings which is fine when Orange or another preferred network is not available. I would like to see the phone try to find a preferred network on a regular basis when it is not on a preferred network.

Perhaps I have missed something but a resend feature in the SMS client would be great, is irritating when I message fails to send and you have to do a forward or reply and get the short header for the previous send.
