Guest Joycey Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Hello everyone. Just thought I would start this thread as i was originally happy with my new upgrade to the 4.2.etc etc. Rom - but i'm now starting to scratch mi head and i'm trying to think of any improvements that have actually been made. Apart from the improved look of the windows media and the ability to actually use the mp3 as ringtones - does anyone out there actually see any improvements? Also does anyone know how to create a playlist on the media side? I've tried and failed miserably. When I got the upgrade - i was going to rush out and buy myself a 512mb mini sd card, but i'm now wondering whether or not its worth it. Also, the mp3's cant be used for individual contact ringtones - you still have to revert back to converting the files using windows media converter to convert them to wma files and then stick them in the sounds file (very faffy). I have also noticed in another thread that some people out there would like to downgrade to the old 4.1.1.2 ROM - what other problems has everyone been experiencing out there?
Guest Tech Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 I have the C500 and you can always use mp3 as ringtone... or wma... I assume by default you can also do the same on C550 but not sure... dont see why orange (NOT Microsoft) would take out that feature
Guest Wastedyuthe Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 I have noticed more so with the new rom there is more of a click sound when tracks begin and end, and windows media player has a slight jump at the begining of tracks most of the time. In fact I have decided to still use TCPMP for audio and video. I can't say I have noticed any other imrovements. Dissapointing.
Guest snake_ub Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 I noticed a small improvement that when the phone is in silent you now get a little icon at the top next to the gprs logo, which is handy for me when i want to quickly see if its in silent or not. I've found wmp10 plays some files smoother, i had some wma vid files from the net that i used to play in betaplayer with a very poor framerate and in wmp10 they are smooth as anything. but i cant play then at all in beta player now tho :?:
Guest skaramanga Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 On my old ROM if I sent an MMS and requested a delivery report I never got one, but now, lo and behold, delivery reports do work for MMS messages! On my old ROM with bluetooth turned on, if I turned on my G2 headset, the little headset icon would appear automatically, now I have to manually set it as handsfree for this to happen.
Guest Miniman99 Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 Two problems I have noticed TomTom 4 doesn't want to work. This seems to revolve around not being able to see a GPS device through Bluetooth as other GPS apps don't work either. I noticed that the pairing in BT kept failing and the serial ports needed setting up. Didn't chase this one down - just downgraded my ROM. Answerphone button seems to be flakey on some sets (was on mine) and won't keep the Orange 123 number.

Guest Gajet Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 Can't get it to work with my BT headset (Jabra 200) I want my old phone back! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My Jabra BT-200 is working fine, and now automatically switches the handset to headset profile.
Guest jporch316 Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 Memory really gets sucked - first time in 6 months that i couldnt use any application because there wasnt emnough memory - not even task manager would run Bloody annoying answerphone no glitch as well
Guest gavinchappell Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 I've had problems with memory (very low amounts free), I had the answerphone bug (although I didn't realise it was a bug till I downgraded to 4.1.1.4 this afternoon), and I also noticed VERY poor miniSD performance. When I loaded the camera, it would take a good 30 seconds to start up, and when I took a picture it would take about 5-10 seconds to write it to miniSD. Also when trying to play .3gp's in PVPlayer, the phone would lock up with the spinning 4-colour logo and hang like that till I yanked the battery out. Now I'm back on 4.1.1.4, theres still a slight delay when taking pics, but it's nowhere near as bad (maybe a second), and I can play videos fine. Actually, I lied. I still can't take pictures, it's been saving one I just took for about 60 seconds now while I've been writing this post. It took 4 fine, the 5th is taking forever...can't load any other programs either (stored on the memory card). Grrrrr!
Guest Wlodek Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 [...] I downgraded to 4.1.1.4 this afternoon [...] <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tried to downgrade and it won't let me :) Can you explain how you have done that, please? TIA W.
Guest nowimboard Posted August 11, 2005 Report Posted August 11, 2005 I have noticed the new "silent" logo which is handy, I have the Voice Mail bug. One thing that is very annoying is that the system "click" doesn't always sound or is sometime distorted. Bit annoying when playing solitare!
