My Audiovox SMT 5600 suddently developed a strange black swirl-looking mark covering the bottom third of the screen--it looked like the display had been burned under the cover...the black swirl mark lasted about 5-10 minutes then completely disappeared...it does not appear to have left any permanent mark (I hope).

Anyone experience a similiar issue with their smartphone? Any thoughts on what caused this...or what to do to prevent this in the future.

Since I've had my phone replaced, the new one seems to suffer from a sort of screen burn. It's a bit weird but ghost images appear when the screen is black (in parts) which stay for ages.

@Mupwangle:

I think yours is haunted. You got a refurbished one, and the former owner probably died after swapping his C500 for a nokia. To punish him the gods made him roam inside his old C500 untill the end of all times and beyond. A really hard reset cleansing ritual by a voodoo master may get rid of him/her though...

Mark on the screen re-appeared (and disappeared) four more times today...not sure if it's a heat and/or humidity thing, but it is very strange that the mark keeps appearing then disappearing...but fearful of a potential "haunted phone", I mailed it back today for a replacement. 8)

It's been noted before with other phones that temperatures can affect the screen. This is normally related to cold conditions though.

Hmmmm....it's certainly not cold here in the Northeast US where temperatures are well over 90 degrees (F).
