C500 strange charging problem - help pls!

My c500 was behaving very strangly one night (freezing, crashing while playing vids+mp3) rebooted phone and everything was fine for the rest of the night,

woke next morning and the phone was dead!

dead dead, normally if my bat went flat it would still power up then trun off (via windoze)

Now it wont charge from usb via pc, so went and bought a mains charger (that also plugs into usb port)

But when I plug the charger in the following happens....

- led lights up red for about 3 seconds

- led then goes out for about 3 seconds

- led lights up amber for about 3 seconds then truns green!

- stays green for about ten mins

then the whole cycle repeats (going back to red)

I can try and start phone but it just dies after a few seconds,

Got new battery on order but thought I'd post here for any info or help, has anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour?

All I'm left with at the mo is an expensive bloddy traffic light!
