Hi there!

I am a pro software dev and thought I would make an application for my smartphone.

scenario (I think)...

You come home and your computer is all the way upstairs or in some location. The speakers are on and you wanna play some music when you walk in (i guess you could say it could greet you when you walk in hehehe).

You dont wanna have to walk all the way to the computer and load the audio file ya wanna play.

so, I have made an application which allows you to control WMP on your computer through your smartphone VIA blueooth!

hope it sounds great! If you are interested... I may post the application here if thats ok?

it's almost complete. I just need to sort out one problem and its a wierd one. Works fine on the emulator but not on the phone itself.

What do you think? like the sound of the app?

You have to have the "server" app running on your PC in order for it to accept a connection from your phone, once that has been connected it will recieve a request from your phone to play the file you want to play from your phone.

You tell the phone application what folder to look in and it will bring back a list of files in that folder (file extensions are configurable, so you can choose to filter out wma/mp3 files or whatever extension you want).

You then simply scroll down and select the file you wanna play, hit "play" and it will play that file on your computer!

like the sound of that? :)

Sounds like a very basic version of Jeyo Remote 2... which is in no way a bad thing! I'd really like an app that controls media player, as I wouldn't wanna be controlling anything else from my phone really, but it'd have to be free for me to use it :). I'm not a cheapo but if it was a commercial app (like Jeyo Remote) I'd just shell out some more money and buy a logitech diNovo - I really really want one anyway - and that'd do the job.

The only problem I have is that I don't have a BT dongle yet - cos I'm a poor student and can't really justify buying one. :D

Back to the point - It sounds like it'd be a popular app to me but as I said would have to be free or very cheap as Jeyo Remote is out there!

Good luck!

To my knowledge there are two products that do this already:

- Jeyo's remote, which is VERY user-friendly but can sometimes feel a little constricting (as it offers set options only) and costs a little tiny bit.

- Kingherc's PC remote control (freeware and in the MoDaCo downloads section) which is very powerful and can do anything, as it can replicate the mouse or keyboard completely, but isn't user-friendly for a novice. I found this after lending my C500 to a mate to run his presentation on at work - he moved the cursor off the space bar and paniced when it stopped moving on to the next slide!

I don't mean this as any kind of slur on Tech's abilities, Jeyo's or Kingherc - hey, I only have the skills to open Visual Basic, panic, then close it again - just think that if you're working on building something it might be nice to have the best bits of both?

Sorry - I realise this is like the bloke with the Nova saying to his mechanic "Well, I want it to out-run a McLaren F1, can you do that?" :)

Very true, Tech, very true.

Good luck with it dude, and please post it on here when it's done as that kind of thing is always a great way to show off.

Picture the scene, you arrive home late one night with a lady - flick your phone out, press a couple of buttons and Barry White starts eminating smoothly from the bedroom. She smiles into your eyes, takes you by the hand..... (continued on www.MillsAndBoon.com)

lol yeh man - so true :) awesome! :D

I'm almost done, i just need to solve 1 small (wierd) problem, and need to find out an Answer to a Question I have:

When you have a bluetooth dongle connected to the PC and you have bluetooth enabled (set to discovered), when you try to connect to the computer from the smartphone - does it use bluetooth to do this or will it dial a GPRS connection?

drats!

cant find a way to communicate via bluetooth. I did find a good API but you need .NET CF 2.0! (which is in WM2005!)

:) sucks!
