Caller ID - # (###) - HowTo ?

I am wondering if there is a way to have my incoming calls look like this:

(###) ###-#### .. as opposed to # (###) ###-#### .

In my situation the first number is 1.

I hate to always have to maunally edit out the 1 when saving contacts. I am on cingular nationwide, so long distance isn't a problem .. but why is it that:

local calls show up with a 1 prefix ???

Please help me out people !!
