Differences between SP3i (8020) and 8100/XphoneIIm

I waited out buying the original C500 (SMT5600) in the US because I thought I'd miss having a joystick on the phone, and I wasnt sure if it would have all the software I'd need.

After using a pocket pc OS (Dell Axim X50v) for a few months, I think I want an MS phone as well. I've been doing some research (saw the thread about the differences between the C550 and the 8100) but I was wondering what the main differences are between the iMate SP3i (~$300 in the US) and the Qtek 8100/SDA/Xphone IIm (~$450) - besides the extra buttons. Will they both run the same software? Camera quality the same?

The latter phones seem focused on music, do they have better music playback hardware? Anything worth paying extra money for?

Thanks for the help!

Ok, the SP3i and SDA are both the HTC Feeler model branded by I-Mate and T-Mobile respectively. They have a joystick but no media buttons. Other then that they are very similar to the HTC Typhoon (C500) you mention.

The 8100 and XPhone IIm meanwhile are HTC Amadeus devices this time branded by Qtek and O2. They add the media buttons but as far as I know there are no other major differences.

For specs of the HTC Smartphones and the different incarnations available see this chart here.

As you see, often the differences are largely asthetic.

Thanks for the reply, the chart was very helpful!

I am a little surprised since people say that some devices (SDA) are faster than others (C500) that should have identical hardware specs, but I guess it comes down to the OS / Software config.

I'm wondering how useful the joystick is on the Feeler / SP3i / SDA, and if they can be used to play emulators and other games (simultaneous keypresses)?

I'm sure that there will be devices with better specs soon enough but for now this seems like the way to go.

I have just bought an i-mate SP3i after previously owning a SPV C500 and I think its lovely, it operates very smoothly. The Club i-mate which you then have free membership to is also very good as you can download all the settings you need for your phone from there ( very handy if you have to do a reset ) :)
