making the best of a new battery

c550 coming tomorrow, and you hear a lot about 16 hour charges etc.

ive also heard a lot about phones coming with some charge, so what is the best procedure to follow?

1) run battery flat then charge for ages (even if it says its full?)

2) charge straight away without turning on until it says its full

3) charge straight away for 16 hours, even though i thought phones stopped charging when full to prevent over charging?

thanks guys, had 2 c500s and the latest one had rotten life compared to first, just wondering the best way to treat it :)
