Guest uzi_999 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 ive searched around and i still havent been answered... where can i see a list of upcoming smartphones/ppcpe's, and with details of their OS's.. im due for an upgrade about 18th august and what is my best option??? shall i wait for a few months and see what pops up at orange or shall i go for the m500 or c550... help needed please... imo if i dont wait i have settled for the m500 as i currently own the c500 and i would like a change, not just a mere update and a qvga screen... p.s i never knew where to put this post so i put it in help - as thats what im after :)
Guest chucky.egg Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 AFAIK there is no maintained list of upcoming phones or devices You'll have to trawl around for the particular devices you're interested in. C550 feels like a poor choice ATM - problems sync'ing media, many apps only use 75% of the screen, some apps (esp TomTom) just don't work etc etc Either wait for the software updates that let you take advantage of the higher res screen or go for a PPCPE - but they are very different devices.
Guest Twain Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 If you're thinking of getting an m500 make sure you have a good play with one first. I went from my e100 to an xda2 and although it was fun for a while, i.e. much faster excellent for videos and so on, but as a phone wasn't all that great and quickly got a c500 when that came out and it felt so much better. Like you my upgrade is on the 18th August so I had a play on both the c550 and m500 the other day in the orange shop. The m500 i was lookin forward to seeing to find out how much better it was than the xda2 and it is a big improvement. Firstly the size is much more manageable, you dont feel stupid using it as a phone for a start, I had hoped the new keypad entry was goin to be better as texting on the xda was a nightmare (even worse when drunk and trying to use text recognition!). But it seemed poorly set out and still isnt optimized for finger input. But again far more powerful than any smartphone as of yet. The c550 was also very nice, the screen is excellent my major problem is with the design of the soft, home and back keys which in my opinion should have been changed with the media keys, despite being advertised as a music phone the phone part is still more important. As far as the software problems go to me it not too big a problem and the strength of the community now and commitment of the majority of developers I wouldnt be suprised if they were corrected pretty soon. Realistically I dont see another handset coming out for quite a while yet. So basically need to work out if you need the extra power/functionality of the PPCPE or not as it reduces the ease of use as a phone quite a bit! All this is of course just my opinion so feel free to completely ignore me!!! Hope it helps
Guest uzi_999 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 ive had a look at different reviews and i think it is the reduced-size ppcpe (m500) for me.. im bored stiff of my c500, and so reckon if i get the c550 ill be bored of it before i even buy it!! im off to the orange shop 2moro 2 have a look at the different devices... @twain - what a coincidence.. BTW what are you goin for
Guest Twain Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 At the moment i'm pretty sure i'll get the c550, the amount i use my phone has decreased loads in terms of the extra things it can do since i got my creative zen and also my digital camera both of which are small enough but good enough to justify having more than one device, i pretty much just use the phone. Getting the c550 is more a point of just replacing my phone because its so damaged (fell out my pocket doing about 45mph on my motorbike!) Plus I might start using it for episodes of family guy and things again. Cant really warrant increasing in size much for for functions I wont really use. But knowing me I will keep changing my mind, depends how much money I have at the time as well!
