Unable to install new C500 rom update

I know it's probably everything i deserve but....

Back when the French rom update came out, I was one of the people too impatient to wait for the UK rom so I fiddled and updated to the French one.

Now when I came to install the new UK, I got an error saying "Error [296] : UPGRADE ONLY".

This appears to be happening because it thinks the current rom on my phone is version 4.2.2.1 and the rom i am trying to install is version 4.2.1.1

Is there any way I can fool my phone into thinking it has an older rom, or is there any other way to get this installation to work?
