For those of you who don’t know of Marks & Spencer they are a large uk retailer who have been struggling of late, with sales down and the new management trying desperately to turn it around.

I just spotted an article indicating that some Marks & Spencers executives are to be issued with smartphones, which when combined with Conchango Retail KPI, are to aid in the evolution of the company back to its former days at the top.

Not In itself a hugely interesting revelation, however it does tie in with a trend, in which over the last few months more and more large company’s are turning to smartphones. Of course technology on its own cant solve problems of business, however it is interesting that large company’s would favour smartphone devices, with no push email support over the blackberry or treo alternatives.

— Microsoft Ltd. and Conchango (UK) plc, today announced that Marks & Spencer, one of the UK’s leading retail companies, will trial Windows Mobile™-based Smartphones to deliver mobile Microsoft® Outlook® e-mail, calendar and contacts to a number of executives. The Smartphone will incorporate a prototype of the Conchango Retail KPI (Key Performance Indicator) Dashboard application to deliver store performance information and provide an insight into the potential of Conchango’s KPI application to deliver up to date information, enabling its users to make informed, accurate decisions whilst on the move.

Now if Tesco's made a similar announcement it would be another nail in the symbian coffin.
