Guest nickb23 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Hi Guys, I have decided that I would like to get an Orange M500, and I am 10 months into a 12 month contract. I keep reading that people got free upgrades to the M500 and even some got it before their contract was up. As someone who spends £50 per month (I have talk 200 plan) how can I get one for free? Nothing fraudulent pleeze!!!!! Thanks NickB
Guest zippy172 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 10 months you might struggle... Wait until the first day of your last month, then try the upgrade. Worked for me.
Guest Moko 1 Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I am in the same boat, but when I originally asked for a PAC code they told me the best way was to move to the lowest tariff possible then cancel (this worked out at around £40 with 4 months left on contract) But when I phoned yesterday to get my PAC code they straight away offered free upgrade to M500 and with a bit of haggeling put me on Premier 600 and finally offered me £190 credit when I mentioned I wanted T-mobiles free Sat nav deal. So just phone up and hagel and if the person does not give you what you want just phone up again and try with someone else! 8)
Guest nsp24 Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005   10 months you might struggle... Wait until the first day of your last month, then try the upgrade. Worked for me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My upgrade is due on 17th August and they want £199 I asked for my PAC code and they sent me it saying there is nothing they can do until my contract is over. It will then cost me £99. My main problem is I am on the select 500 tariff. I think you can get about £30 for an old handset if you go to the Orange Shop so I think I will give that a go at the end of August
Guest k3v Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 i just got mine for free, they originally wanted £200 for an upgrade, then £100 after i said i could get one for free on o2, then when i said it was too much, they put me through to rentention and i got it for free and they doubled my minutes for 6 months, and i didnt even ask for this. Basically you have to threaten to leave. Im on talk 60 tariff but lately my bills have been round the £35 a month mark
Guest digger Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I guess I don't spend enough. :) My £25 was not enough to make them want to keep me. Therefor my contract was cancelled and I am now getting a new contract to get the M500 for free.
Guest nickb23 Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 thanks guys I called them up at lunch, and told them that I had seen the tmobile offer of sat nav with the mda compact, and asked them what they can do to make me stay. The guy was very nice, and said all I could do was wait until my last month of my contract (15 aug), and then call back. He said I would probably get it for free. I think this is ok, but as I am the worlds most impatient man, do you think I should call back and try and get them to give me one now? Does anyone know if calls and subject of calls are recorded by Orange, which might get me rumbled? I dont want to call back tomorrow, and for them to say that I tried this yesterday. thanks NickB

The trick is to ask to speak to retentions department and they have the most power to offer you freebies etc. i managed to get a deal where for £55 a month i get 520 any netwrok anytime mins, 200 evening mins, 300 texts, 4MB of data and insurance, although then they charged me £30 for the M500, which I didn't mind paying cause the tariff was pretty decent...
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 So the basic key would be to ring up, ask for the upgrade, complain about the price, say that tmobile are doing it free and it comes with sat nav. Then say that you've been with orange for X years and it would be a shame to have to leave because of a massivly over priced handset when another provider does it free with gps. Now... They probably won't ont a speach, so i'll probably shorten that a little.
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 So, I just rang orange upgrades, they told me as im 12 days away from contract end it would be £120 upgrade fee. I rang up twice about that, got the same answer twice. They they they wouldn't be able to change that, I would have to wait. They also told me that 'the system is showing that we can negotiate any deals about the m500 until your out of contract and then we get some offers that show up that we can use for 12 month customers. ' Even tried the tmobile trick etc etc. They wouldn't budge. In the end they said to ring back on the 12th and i'll probably get it free. Stingy Gits ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
Guest zippy172 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 In all honesty, the tellytubbies at Orange as prolly just as exasperated as you thinking numpty customers can have a lil patience and wait until their contract is up... I know the other posts here suggest you can effectively barter O for a free upgrade... Just saying OCS must be as equally cheezed...
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 ;) Ye. Still a bit annoyed, heh :) Appartantly you can barter on the handset price but 'we cannot waiver your upgrade fee' Rules are rules.................. :@
Guest hbfair Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Keep trying, guys - it worked for me today :-) My contract was coming up at the end of the month (talk 120 ~£30pm) and OCS were initially having none of it. The trigger that seemed to get me through to Retentions was mentioning the specific T-Mobile offer. I guess that the company tells OCS to assume a customer is bluffing unless the he/she gives them the specifics about the offer they've seen. Give it a go and see what happens. And don't feel bad for OCS - they'd only get lonely without our calls. :-)

Guess its luck of the draw, depends on who you speak to. Men tend to give a better deal that women (LOL)!
Guest uzi_999 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 i spoke to a man, he told me that he couldnt do any negotiations, and so i asked to speak to retentions/disconnections.. i told them about the satnav deal on t-mob and they said ill have it for free, but i have to upgrade to a +£25 price plan.. the one i was interested in was the off peak 1000, but then he told me that only 200 of these 1000 mins are x-network so i told him that there was inconsistency as the orange shop had told me otherwise.. then i had told him that im unhappy and he said that i can keep my tariff and have the phone for free!!!
Guest nickb23 Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Hey guys, Well Orange were begging to give me a free M500 (and possible the M2000) but in the end I have moved to O2 and i am getting the QTEK S110. (An I-mate Jam / M500 with 128mb RAM) I thought it was the wise choice, as all the reviews I have read have loved the Jam / M500, but were dissapointed with the amount of on board memory. If I had got the M500, I know I would have felt it was possibly the wrong descision. Anyway for a nominal fee (£30) I now have the Mega Jam!!! Also If QTEK release a Windows Mobile 5 update, I want to make sure that the Phone is as up to date as possible. NickB
Guest dolphinit Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 Happy Bunny here :) Spoke to oOrange about upgrade and they said I would have to pay £99 for a M500 when my contract ends in 6 days. Mentioned that T-mobile offered me a MDA compact for free on an equivalent contract and asked to be put through to retentions. A couple of minutes of holding was worthing it. Was put through and imediatly told I could have a M500 for free on a new 12 month contract and would be sent out today. Dont know if it made any difference that Im a business customer. Roll on Monday ;)
Guest dynamo Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 I really want this phone (M500) and i'm just about to call orange to find out if i can get it for free. I was just wandering if the Orange 343 upgrade number is also free (or should i just route it though 150)? Thanks

Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 343 is business - just do 150 and choose 'thinking of leaving orange'. i just did this in the last 15 min: i told 'Simon' at OCS that i didn't know whether to upgrade or leave orange, they asked what i wanted and i replied an M500 free on current deal. Asked about changing plan in a few weeks of getting the new phone - said i was locked in the one i choose for 6 months. I'm not a massive call user so i set up: YP60 - £19 60Msg - £4 World 4mb - £4 Insurance - £5 £32pm and a free phone - i'm well chuffed!!
Guest squall Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 i got mine delivered yesterday, £19 a month contract and £5 for the phone :)
Guest Cymruan Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 I got mine yesterday, went into the orange shop, asked for it and was given it. was expecting to have to pay £50, but they just gave it to me for free. was very confused, but didn't complain. i'll just use the extra money i saved on a bigger memory card :)
Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I've got three lines with Orange at the moment, total average about £75 per month. I'm planning on cancelling the oldest two because they are past the 12 month contract now and I rarely use them for calls. There's still about 5 months left on my thrid line, do you think they will allow me to get a FREE upgrade to the M500 if I extend my third line's contract a further 12 months?
Guest zippy172 Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I would go for trying to achieve a free upgrade before cancelling the other two oldest lines... At least then you have a bartering option of cancelling them while on the line to retentions...
Guest James Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 While we are on the subject... does anyone know how to get a free gold plated rolls royce? ;-)
Guest Br1an_g Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 tried today. out of stock, but got my pak code.. was going to be £180 for an upgrade, i have 2 lines averaging £60 a month. getting a t-mobile mda compact now...pity..
