Guest swam Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 yo, I was on my 5th replacement c500 from Orange Uk and the dust was back, this time in the bottom left hand corner so I gave Orange a call. I asked if they could upgrade me to the c550 so I dont have to every month get a replacement phone, they said this wasnt possible and offered me the e200 or some dodgy nokia's, so I ended that call and then called back again to get another replacement (may as well). So I called up as usual and received the replacement on sunday just gone. On opening the white box I noticed that the battery cover was different to the 4 I had previously, it wasnt as smooth and had more of a texture to the surface, so I put in the battery etc and carried on. Four days later and I dont have a single spec of dust under the screen and the phone has been in all the same places as usual pocket / desk wise. So, Im not sure If ive got lucky, or my moaning at Orange has paid off and somehow I have a 'fixed' unit. I only say this because some dude I was speaking to at HTC said they have a new front shell which doesnt let in any dust at all. Has anyone else had any luck with their latest replacement? cheers Sam
Guest midgetdiablo Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 thats interesting. can you post up a picture of the cover?
Guest swam Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 thats interesting. can you post up a picture of the cover? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yo, yeh no prob Ill take a pic when Im back home after work, it should be possible to make out the difference in a photo, the grain of the material does show. cheers Sam
Guest Griff_FFOC Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 that does sound interesting. We should be receiving a couple of new C500's at work so i'll see what the case is like on those.

Im comparing it from the panel on the rear of the phone with the windows logo to the battery cover I have placed alongside. You can clearly see the difference in texture, this rougher texture is only on the battery cover though, nowhere else. http://www.tesselate.me.uk/comparison.jpg cheers Sam Edited July 29, 2005 by swam
Guest midgetdiablo Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 i actually have no dust problem with the old cover, but i wonder why they would make the surface rougher.
Guest Tech Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 (edited) I noticed the change of the cover too! I got my first replacement a few weeks ago after my purchase back in november, and since the change the backcover doesnt quite match up with the front/side of the phone.. its like a few mm outside... not noticing any dust yet on the screen edges but does seem to attract a bit more... even though i have a cover for the phone and use it.... The whole phone seems a bit dodgy though...the black seems to chip off the back of the phone after a while leaving silver underneath, which makes me wonder if these are just the old silver SPVs reconditioned? Also this new one has a dead pixel and seems to flicker a lot more...time to go back to orange again :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 I've never had dust and the phone's almost a year old now. Then again I've never kept my phone in my pocket.

Then again I've never kept my phone in my pocket. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry to deflate you chaps but I also noticed the rough cover on my replacement C500. But I now have dust, but like swam it is under the bottom left corner of the screen. I suspect the latest gen of C500's have been sealed to prevent dust around the volume and camera buttons but ingress is now possible around the soft keys.
