Videos won't play on smt-5600

I just got a 1gb mini sd. i was looking forward to putting some movies and tv shows on the card and watching them on my phone. i know that the phone can play back mpeg-4, avi, etc. but when i try to play these file types, i just get an error that reads "cannot play file". any ideas? thanks in advance.

Make sure that your files are optimized for SmartPhone playback. Pay particular attention to the video size and codec used to encode the videos plus the application to play those videos on your phone. I recommend TCPMP (formerly Betaplayer) for video playback.
