I've posted something about this before, but no one responded. So i'm asking again.

basically I have the audiovox 5600, its unlocked and im using it on Tmobile USA. I can send and receive sms messages to any GSM provider (as far as I know) but when sending to other carriers say verizon or sprint. I can only new message/send/ sms messages. I cant reply to the messages that are sent to me. If i do, the other party will never get them. Does anyone know how this is possible? I've even hard reset my phone, and it still doesnt help.

Have you noticed any difference in content between the new and replied messages ? I assume they both have the same MSISDN number i.e National or International prefix.

When i "reply" to messages, It puts the persons name on the "to:" line. Not a number. Any other ideas?

I just found out that my friend has the exact same problem. He also has T-mobile. Anyone have an answer?

Could be because SMS is text only.....

Is this not simply the standard Outlook presentation ?

ie. it shows name but means number ?

Otherwise it could be caused by a number format error. Are your numbers stored in (eg) +44 format ? This is standard for mobile telephony (ooh...get Disco Stu :) ) and Caller ID will only work with those formats.

Did you mean MMS ?

Picture messaging is usually a service you need to enable with your operator. Or it was over here at one point anyway. We also had cross-network compatibility problems too.

Yo Disco Stu,

First, you seem to confuse more people than you help some times.

I also have a SMT5600 on T-Mobile. I can reply to other T-Mobile phones by SMS but I cannot send SMS to anyone but T-Mobile customers. If I do try to send they do not recieve.

So the question is... do we have SMS set-up correctly ( I'll bet not) or do we have to change some settings on the SMT5600?

Stu if u don't know this answer to this let someone else take a stab at it please.

How does Disco Stu confuse? I've always founnd his answers very helpfu;...

When you receive a text it displays the name in the "From" field, if you highlight this on the C550 it displays the number, does it on the SMT5600?

There are two possible things that could cause your problem AFAIK:

1) The number on received messages is not in the correct format - This seems unlikely as the name is being displayed, if it was in a different format I would expect the number only to be dispalyed.

2) There is a problem with T-Mobile cross network SMS sending - again this seems unlikely as you can send to other networks just not reply.

The things I would try if I was having this problem would be:

a) When you select reply to a text go to the "To field, delete the name and re-insert it from contacts - Does this work?

:) Try your SIM in another phone (not an SMT5600). Can you reply to non T-Mob SMSs then?

I do not know of any setting that could cause this problem, but then I don't know everything.....

Hello

Cant answer the problem I am sorry to say, but I think you can rule out your phone being the problem, this problem has been around for ages, I used to get this on my old Nokia 6110, I was on vodaphone and had to mates that were on one-2-one (which I believe then became T-Mobile) I could send a new text to them and I could receive texts from them but I could never reply to a message they sent me I would just get "message sending failed" I also seem to remember a few of my mates (on Voda and Orange) having the same problem when texting mates on one-2-one, So if anything it may be a network problem, although it must be random as if it effected every one I am sure they would have sorted it out by now.

If I don't know the answer I am usually trying to clarify what the problem actually is.

If I can tease out a better description then the next guy has a better chance of answering it.

I very much doubt that my contributions signal to other members that the problem is solved. Confucious normally comes along to deal with my deficiencies :)

Oh, and while I'm on my high horse, bumping is frowned upon here for obvious reasons

All my fault... Phaasit o/t the thread and two replies to the o/t question corn-fused me.

Most of Stu's answers are perfect. Anyone who uses CDex and likes the Simpsons is okay with me.

Betcha I own more disco music than Disco Stu does! I was a club DJ for a few decades and I've got 50,000+ records.

Maybe I had a bad day too....

Now someone .cab the homescreen: ToltecFacadeHomescreenWITH_SmartMonitor

A bit about this thread:

I also had the same problem replying to SMS on my SX66 PPC device with this SIM, so I put the SIM in my daughter's T-Mobile Motorola V330 and it worked. So maybe it is the SIM card & CE problem (maybe a new card would fix this bug), but I think it's a setting somewhere.

Yes it displays the number.

All of my numbers are correctly formated

I tried my sim in another t-mobile phone and it replies without any problem at all.

just erased the name and reentered it, waiting for a reply now.... or just waiting :)

k i try to reply to the person but i erase their name and reenter it via the contact list, they never receive it. So..... what does this mean?

But you can send them a message which isn't a reply?

It rules out the number coming through in the wrong format.

The fact that you can reply when you put your SIM in another phone rules out a fault at t-Mob. It sugests an incompatability between the info being sent by the 5600 and t-mobile's network. As they don't sell the phone they are unlikely to want to sort it out . I know of no settings you could change.

Maybe someone with a better knowledge of how SMS messages actually work from a technical point of view can help?

But it looks like something you might just have to live with, sorry I can't be of more help. :)

"replying" then erasing the name, and reentering it fron contacts doesnt help either, they still dont get the message

This is a known issue on T-Mobile with MS Smartphones (though T-Mobile sometimes claim ignorance). It has been around for a while and there is no fix for it at this time. The only workaround is what you are currently doing....Use "New" instead of "Reply"

Hopefully, T-Mobile will resolve it someday (though I wouldn't hold my breath). I haven't tried with WM2005, so I don't know if it is magically resolved in that version.

can you tell me where you received an unlocked 5600? i am planning on buying one to use with t-mobile as well but was told that it is difficult to unlock the phones. if i buy one from a best buy type location would that be unlocked.

thanks,
