Guest RonV42 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 I just enabled a data plan with my SMT-5600 wich is registered with AT&T Wireless (Cingular). Anyway I connect just fine to GPRS when the phone is first turned on and the little "G" appears appars next to the signla strength display. But when I am done with the connection the "G" never goes off. And when I try to connect again say in a hour or so I get the message that the web site can not be found. I have to either do flight mode or turn the phone off and on to get a connection again. Do I have a defective phone or is there a way to set timeouts for GPRS? Thanks RonV47
Guest squall Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 try holding the home button then selecting disconnect gprs
Guest jporch316 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Why do you want to disconnect - The little G is always on mine - it deosnt cost and it doesnt affect performance (at least not enough to bother me)

Guest O2XII Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 What squall said. And if your phone is like mine (the O2 variant) the little G will remain on the display for some time. GPRS is disconnected, but there seems some lag before that fact shows.
Guest RonV42 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 What you guys are missing from my origanal post is the the G does not go away and I have to cycle the phone off and on if I try to browse again say 1 hour later. I get an error message that the "site cannot be found". If I power cycle and try again it works fine. There is definately something going on inside this phone when the carrier closes the GPRS connection that the phone doesn't think the connection is closed and trys to use the exsiting connection. That is why I am looking for something that will disconnect GPRS after I am done using. I called tech support and they were not aware of any issues with GPRS on this phone and suggested that I have 3 bars or power and a fully charged battery....standard stuff. Other than that they were useless. On my Moto T720 when I would stop browsing the GPRS indicator would go away in about 30 senconds. What squall said. And if your phone is like mine (the O2 variant) the little G will remain on the display for some time. GPRS is disconnected, but there seems some lag before that fact shows. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Guest Confucious Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Holding the home button brings up the quick menu on the C500 NOT the smt5600 (it goes straight too ie favourites.) there is a program arround on Modaco that keeps your internet connection alive IIRC. If you can't find it I'll see if I can when I get time. Good luck.
Guest Jamma14 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 (it goes straight too ie favourites.) Grammar...tsk tsk  By the way what does IIRC mean???
