Guest bb79 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Ok so I am on the verge of taking the plunge and buying a C550, but I'm wondering whether to buy Orange care or not. I've never had a decent mobile before just crappy old nokias which I've either not had insured or had general mobile insurance from Endsleigh. I've never lost my phone or had a problem with one that needed fixing so is Orange care worth it or not? Is it different from normal insurance / what do you get for your £5 a month? Cheers in advance BB79
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Buying a c550? I say yes get it. I know quite a few people who havn't had orange care and they have had a HTC device (SPVs) and they have a problem, they ring orange, send it off, HTC fob them off with a huge bill and you have to pay it before they send it back to you. Without orange care your looking at maybe over 100 quid just to get your phone fixed. So to be honest I think you should get it. Maybe other people have other views, but thats my 2 peneth.
Guest Samsonite Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 definetely worth the fiver... your years payments will be well worth it when/if you get a problem. You need to know tho that they will charge you fifteen quid when you need a replacement handset and they might waive it once but you're unlikely to get it waived a second time. Cant fault them on service either!! I phoned with a cracked screen on an e200 at 10pm Saturday night and i had a shiny refurb'd phone by 8pm Sunday evening!! It has always been a refurb'd unit in my experience but they look and feel like new...
Guest bb79 Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Yeah I guess I've just been lucky that I've never had anything go wrong with a phone before and never needed insurance. I suppose there's more to go wrong with a more advanced phone like the C550?! I'll go for Orange care when I get my C550 this weekend then. Cheers for the advice guys BB79
Guest Confucious Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 I've never had Orange Care (until I lost my phone). If the phone is faulty you have a warranty, if you break it or lose it claim off your household contents ins. Just my opinion but forking out £60 for a phone which cost nothing in the fist place seems a waste of money. I now have a C550 and still have my C500 so if the worst comes to the wordt I'll just use that. But as with all insurance if you don't have it and someything does go wrong you'll wish you did have it. When I lost my phone O charged me £100 for a new one provided I took out O Care for the rest of my contract (3 months) Personally I don't bother but the choice is yours.
Guest Samsonite Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 in my experience, household insurance policies cover purchase prices of equipment rather than replacment for things like phones etc... When the phone is free, contents insurance people tend to get a bit funny about having to cough up £200+ for a SIM free unit especially when you cant provide a reciept for that amount...

Guest Samsonite Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 @confucious fair enuff!! how much was your excess or premium increase tho? If it was near 60 quid or more i'd still go for O care....
