My contracts up in 2 months so the natural upgrade for me from a C500 would of been the C550 but after nipping in the orange shop the other day, i never realised how small the M500 is, which is good, i thought it would be a lot bigger. I really would like to get the M500 with a wifi card but thing is, is it worth waiting for the next gen of HTC units, like the wizard and C600, and built in wifi units and WM5 or are they a long long way off?

Having used an XDAII (and IIi) for quite some time as my work mobile, I would say that you might want to 'try' a pocket pc phone edition device before going the m500 route. I personally dont think the OS is quite there yet, it's a good pda with a phone, rather than a good phone with PDA'ish features (Like the SPV's and all other PocketPC SmartPhone Edition devices).

If that's what you want then by all means go the m500 route, however if you are going to use it as a phone then go the c550 route (or stay with the 500 untill something new comes out). I've put WM5 on the XDAII on and off (when Buzz releases a new one) and I must say that WM5 is a lot closer to the right sort of mix of pda and phone. There are a few niggles with pocketpc phone edition that have been there for quite a while now and have not been sorted up untill WM5. There only niggles but if your used to a phone as a phone then they may get annoying for you. I do like the XDA/Jam/PocketPC Phone Edition devices, and the jam/m500 is possibly the best mix of size over functionality. However after being used to the size of the screen on the XDAII, then trying an m500 I've noticed it's not quite as usefull using the touch screen as some parts of the OS that are displayed on screen are too small (check boxes, some keypads etc).

So I would get it on a 7 day trial if possible and see what you think.

Just my 2p

The other thing that put me off the M500 (apart from the price) was thatSmartphone Apps don't work on PPCs - I have CoPilot and would have had to buy it again for a PPC so I got a C550 and I'm happy with it.

Personally I like a phone with PDA functinality, I like to have a keyboard as well. The two are quite different devices so it's worth making sure you know what you are doing but if you wasnt a PPC then the M500 is the one to go for, if ypou want a SmartPhone then the C550 is the best on the market at the moment (and I know of nothing that will replace it in the near future)

Good luck.

Thanks for all that. I had a SPV M1000 and it was the worst phone I've ever had.

In varying stages, sometimes all at once - wouldn't make calls, wouldn't receive calls. Wouldn't send texts, wouldn't receive text. Same with MMS.

4 options are -

Sony Ericsson K750i

Motorola V3

C550

D500

(5th option, keep my phone)

PS I already have an Ipaq.

Strange options!

1) Good phone - great camera - if that's all you want from a phone it's the best there is.

2) Nice looking phone - everyone I know who has had one has dumped it because apart from the looks they are awful!

3) Great phone - my phone of choice at the moment.

4) My brother has one of these, no data cable suplied, sold as a business phone becase it plays MP3s and does video - says it all really!

Your choice - horses for courses as they say.
