I'm on the verge of buying a second hand C500, but it is still simlocked. I've read a lot about the unlock precedure of the C500, but I am not able to find out whether you need to have the original sim card, or not. Please help me out.

Can I just follow the instructions from http://www.modaco.com/C500_SimLock_Togglin...00-t207545.html ?

Thanks

Unfortunately you'd need an Orange sim (active or not) in order to install the tool that unlocks the phone.

I could be wrong but think the only way you can unlock one without is to use IMEI-Check.com which costs £20.

Yes, you just need to be able to turn the phone on which you can do with any Orange SIM.

I was in a similar position to you - I bought a C500 to use with Vodafone. It was both sim and application locked.

Unfortunately, in order to use the free unlock tool, you need to have the phone application unlocked. To do that using the Orange website, you need an Orange sim with the GPRS service active. I tried two pay as you go Orange sims, and neither had GPRS enabled, so I couldnt application unlock my C500. Because that prevented me from installing the free unlocking tool, I had to pay £20 for the unlock service from IMEI-Check which worked fine. I then put in my Vodafone contract sim which does have GPRS, and then application unlocked the phone on the Orange site.

My phone is now totally unlocked, and working fine on Vodafone, but without an Orange sim with GPRS active, you might have a hard time getting it all unlocked for free.

Not true! With an Orange SIM you can use Passthrough to connect to the internet to use the site to unlock it or you could just change the registry yourself to unlock it without using the site.

You do need an Orange SIM but you don't need GPRS.

Doh! I did try using the PC as a passthrough to connect to the net, but couldnt get it to work. Damn - I could have saved myself £20...! Oh well, the phone was still a bargain :)

My problem with disabling certificate security is also solved. If you can not disable cert. security through online service, you can also semd an email to [email protected], you MUST write your phoneś IMEI in email and please for application for certificate security unlock. I had it back in 3 minutes. Than only install app to phone and cert. security will be disabled (after dissablong in phoneś menu) ATTENTION, this application will work only with phone which have IMEI you writed in email. For other phone you must have other application for other IMEI.
