The camera on the on this, otherwise, great phone just sucks!

Is there any other camera software to install, to improve this situation!???

Since Symbian phones have more than one camera software, i was thinking that there was one for the MPx220...

Yes this camera is pretty bad- and you are right, when I had my Symbian-based Nokia 3650, there was 3rd party software that did seem to make it a little better. And for video recording, the 3rd party stuff was WAY better.

Seems like that would be useful for the mpx220 too...

I haven't seen any yet, but I'm still kind of a new user to the mpx220...

Other than the cam quality, I LOVE this phone- it rocks!

Well, if you think about it, it is a phone, not a camera. Even when I got my MPx220 I knew I wasn't gonna be getting super-high quality stills. Besides, at least you can still take pictures and let your mind recreate the scene in higher-definition :)

There are some settings that can be applied from the SUrreal network site here

Also if you set the quality to the highest setting and switch on bluetooth it is supposed to make it even better. Haven't found the bluetooth bit to be much of a help, but the rest does help. The only thing that I would say is to play around with the saturation settings, as the pictures can become washed out if taking outside.

The newer ROMs (1.47 or 3.46) are supposed to improve the camera too. I have 3.46 installed and have no probs :)

Hope that helps.

I agree with zero, digital cameras are a dime a dozen now-a-days and you cant expect a camera phone to do both jobs great when its primary purpose is to be able to make phone calls and talk. I hear that the new Sony Cybershot 12 megapixel camera is under 400 bucks, not bad for almost 4X the amount of pixels compared to last years model.

All the comments about "it's a phone, not a camera" ignore the fact that the MPx220 "camera-phone" camera really sucks compared to any other camera-phone camera. For example, the Moto v551 camera phone is less pixels (I think) but the pictures look WAY better.

Same with the Audiovox Smartphone. Pics just look BETTER than the MPx220.

So, sure, if you want a good camera, go buy a camera. But if I pay this kind of money for a super smart phone I expect the camera to be at least as good as the camera in a standard phone!

My 2 cents.

Good point, smrt-

I would agree that you'd think this high end phone that is beautiful and powerful would have a cam that's comparable or better than your run-of-the-mill cheapie camera flip-phones...

In a way the stats are very good with a 1.3 megapixel resolution- The other thing is that the screen on the phone is SO crisp and bright -- if you take a picture that you've taken with another digital cam and view it on the mpx220, wow!

So, it's not the resolution exactly, and it's not the display... so it seems to point to software, which is good because that can be updated.

It's worth hoping for. Keeping my fingers crossed, and in the meantime, I think using the left/right keys to adjust white balance/brightness can help a little when you take the pic. Or there are some reg tweaks floating around to help with saturation, etc. Not much, but hopefully we'll get a software update or program written by someone that will help. If the cam lived up to its potential and worked like other phone-cams do (but with 1.3mp), yep this phone would be even more awesome.
