Hello MoDaCo experts--!

Have any of you successfully skinned Windows Media Player 9??

I've done quite a bit of searching and reading lots of threads, and most of the tutorials refer to Windows Media Player 8. They say to go to:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Media Player 8\Parameters\

and change the value of SkinDir to your skin.

However, on my Smartphone 2003 SE, my registry path is:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Media Player 8\Parameters\

(almost the same, except without the 8 )

But I don't have a SkinDir variable. The only one in there is the DefaultPortraitSkin variable. I tried changing that one, rebooting, but no dice. I also tried adding the SkinDir string with a value pointing to my skin dir, but no go. WMP9 just ends up not being able to start. I know I can change it back, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has had any success skinning Windows Media Player 9???

I really want to try the MiPod skin for smartphone- looks great! Hopefully someone has done a WMP9 skin before.

Thanks to all!

It works. I have a mpx220 and it took me a freaking week to figure it out the tutorial/instructions were not clear enough.

Here is what you do:

1. Find the DefaultPortraitSkin string. change it to the path that is listed in the insturctions.

2. This is the part that I was leaving out, so pay attention. the correct path is \Storage\windows\WMP Skins\default.skn. If you leave off the default.skn file on the path its not going to work.

3. There is a hidden default.skn file in the zip file with the skin. unhide it and make sure it gets coppied to the phone.

4. reboot. as they call it now a days do a soft reset.

You are welcome...I know that you are going to say thanks.

Hey Robertv- As you predicted... Thanks!!

I thought I had tried that setting, but maybe not!

Also, I think that the skin I was trying to use maybe wasn't done yet or quite ready to use on the Smartphone. I was trying to use the MiPod skin:

I still can't seem to get that one working, but I think they are still finishing it up. I tried another skin, and it worked great.

Thanks again!

You will have to convert it to Windows 9. It is made for Media Player 10 ( Smt5600 (C500))

Sorry but I don't have an older phone to convert it too.
