Not really a phone problem but maybe you guys can help.

Looking to get an an m2000 on orange. Their own website for example quotes an m2000 on your plan 200 for £249. Looking on T'internet found this deal:

http://www.fones4free.com/BundleDetails.aspx?BundleID=72

exactly the same contract only the m2000 is £110. Spoke to orange about this and they said "cant really comment, but obviously dealers get a discount on handsets to bring in new contracts", needless to say they couldnt extend the same discount to a customer of 7 years...

Has anyone got any experience with these dealers as I've heard one or two nightmarish stories about them when things go wrong? Would I be better biting the bullet and paying to deal with orange for the backup? any recomendations on dealers?

cheers

Chris

I've had my doubts about dealers, and there are lots of restrictions on the contract imposed, like cant change tarrifs for 6-8 months things like that. So I stear well clear of them.

ive read the terms etc and seems pretty standard. you can still change tariff @6 months etc as per orange but im still suss! theres got to be a catch... I notice they are doing the c550 free with free rental for 6months with cashback... seems too good to be true. anyone got any dealings with this kind of seller?

Dude, last time I looked the M2000 was a Pocket PC rather then a Smartphone. :)

I am also an Orange customer and was looking to upgrade to the M2000 but was put off by the £250 as well. I too looked online to find a better deal but was also reluctant, I prefer to talk to someone face to face. When I was in town this afternoon I went into the O2 shop and they had the XDA IIs (essentially the same as the M2000 as far as I can tell) for £100 on a similar tariff to what I'm on just now. Also went into the T-Mobile shop and they had much the same offer on their MDA II.

I phoned Orange to get my PAC number so I could go back to one of the other shops and strike a deal. The girl at Orange asked why so I told her and she offered to match the deal (well near enough).

I was going to go for the XDA on O2 (it looks cool in black) and it was at the right price. The sales people in both shops were happy to help and I was all prepared to switch provider but when Orange made their offer I decided stick with them as I can’t fault their service, but I am feeling a touch guilty about wasting the time of the sales people.

So I would suggest looking at what’s available on other networks as you'll get better deals for a new contact, and if you decide to move you might be lucky and Orange might match it.

Cheers

It was probably the MDA III rather then the MDA II. The MDA II was an HTC Himalaya same as the Orange M1000.

More good news Nyami is that there have been reports lately of Orange having the latest 1.40 rom on their newer M2000s unlike T-Mobile and O2. Hope yours is one of them.

After an oh so brief daliance with T-Mobile (sold the contract without telling me I'd get zero coverage at home  ), I went back to an Orange M2000 via fones4free

Have to say I had no problems whatsoever.

It probably was the MDA III, it would be much easier if they called them the same thing... I didnt know there was different ROM versions about, is there a big difference between them all (not browsed the forum much yet so I will probably find out soon).

Biggest difference on rom 1.40 is Windows Media Player 10.

I bought a M2000 6 weeks ago from fones4free. the phone has a bug in that often when it rings I cant hear the caller nor can (s)he hear me. I contacted fones4free who said that since I had had the phone for more than 28 days I must contact HTC Europe who maintain orange spv phones.

I sent the phone back to htc who rang me yesterday to say they could not find the fault. I had told them I thought the problem was caused by bluetooth and they said they could not test this as they do not have a bluetooth headset.

the m2000 is on its way back to me still with this bug. other people have this bug, see another thread on this site.

experience now tells me that if you suspect a fault of any kind in a phone tell the vendor within that 28 day period.

I dont know if small talk communications is still trading but I bought an spv c500 from them about 8 months ago. part of the deal was a £50 cashback after 6 months of paying orange £30 each month. 2 months ago I sent off the correct papers/vouchers and then nothing. I have tried ringing them but all I get is an ansaphone. I have talked to orange but they say that they have talked to small talk comms and there is now nothing more they can do. seems I have lost out on that £50.

did you not get orange care as part of your deal? if so you can go to them directly. if not the general concensus is that orange will sort the phone anyways...
