Bluetooth Active Sync

I need a cheap (under £10) bluetooth dongle to sync my m500 with when I get it. I also want to use it for pass through connection.

I have seen LOTS of bad reviews and feedback about bluetooth passthrough and activesync on PPC.

Is it worth it?

its worth trying but dont rely on it!!

I had ActiveStink working over bluetooth perfectly giving passthru for me in the garden for ages, then.... my two year old son pulled the dongle from the USB hub and it has never worked since!!

I plugged the dongle back in, have deleted and repaired any number of times and have never got it back. I firmly believe that Microsft and bluetooth dont mix! If you look at pretty much any other phones BT capability, it sh!ts all over the MS platform!! I used to be able to browse, transfer and manage the files on my SE T610 no worries, but now i cant even OBEX file transfer to a device that runs an OS made by the same people! i ahev tried to set COM ports till i am blue in the face and the PC has nearly been thru the window in frustration! All the guides and tips only work if the PC and PPC play the game properly, if you cant set or find a COM port, forget it!!

All i would say for sync'ing over BT and passthru etc is if it works straight away, your amazingly lucky and should never even breath on any cables or dongles again.

damn you've made me miss surfing whilst smoking...

Well, thanks. I was on the fence, but now I have an opinion from a regular modaco member. I'll give it a miss for now. Im getting my wireless router in the next 6 months, SO i will get a wifi card and use that.

So - Now i have my phone, ive decided I want to try this. I need to know from people who have m500's and bluetooth passthrough connections working. What sort of bluetooth dongle they have. I need to get this right and need help on choosing the right dongle.

Yes it is worth it I had c500 and Bluetooth was great for a while then whent tits up when I upgraded to sp2, I spent ages trying to get it working and gave up after a while, then I got the M500 and had same problem untill I found this bit of advice.

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=8&TopicId=2200

The problem was under sp2 windows installs default drivers even when I pluged the usb dongle in half way through the software load (as Instructed) so once I installed the correct drivers (ones on the cd) and set the ports (1-9) Bingo working like a dream.

Also usefull

the single biggest problem i have is that i cant set Activesync on the PC to see more than COM1 and COM3 and neither of them seem to connect via BT.

I have a QtekS100 so i couldnt categorically say the BT setup is the same as the M500 but, in the COM ports tab in BT settings i cant select another incoming port, the drop down box is empty!! even tho i can get my Windows XP machine to throw up COM ports in the 60's and 70's (not via Activestink tho) i cant make the phone select anything other than...nothing!! i hope this makes sense to someone cos i have given all hope and simply yearn for better days... ](*,)

my BT dongle is a cheapo thing from a local IT company so that may be the problem, but i thought bluetooth was bluetooth irrespective of brand - true?

As it explains in the post in the links try the drivers that came with the bluetooth device (forced driver install as windows will keep telling you "no better match")

I had two bluetooth icons in the task bar (one white blue and one red blue) the white blue one gave me the same coms port tab with the dropdown box but it didnt want to work.

After installing corect drivers I now get the red blue icon as blue white and it has different settings (no drop down box)

When I added serial service the bluetooth sofeware picked up active sync and worked first time and have had no problems since.

P.s you might need to delete com ports before install or change com ports after install as I belive active sync can only see 1-9.

Good Luck

"but i thought bluetooth was bluetooth irrespective of brand - true?"

True as in a car is a car - but one can run on petrol and the other desiel
