Guest Confused Stu Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 You should stay with the 2003SE because: - There's never been an official release of WM5 for the SMT5600, so this topic is skating on the edge of what's allowed under MoDaCo rules. - The ROM's that are circulating have no working MMS, and the camera control software is much worse than on the official ROM (unless there's a new version out that I haven't heard about) - Lots of people complained it's nearly impossible to put their phones back to 2003SE once they've done it. - If your phone develops a problem, or if it breaks in some way, you'll have no warranty or recourse and will just have a very expensive paperweight! :) Seriously, so far all I've seen are people reporting problems, bugs and breakdowns with the WM5 ROM's out there. I have yet to see anyone saying "I changed to WM5 and it's brilliant because...." I'd say stick with the 2003SE model. If you really want to experience WM5 download the emulator and the SDK from Microsoft and play on that instead.
Guest oturn Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 Find any list of WM 5.0 improvements, and that's what you'll get. It's not overtly dramatic, but impressive nonetheless. What you won't get is: Voice tags Automatic brightness MMS Several other previously built-in apps I'm using Fonix VoiceDial, which works well. There is a workaround for the brightness issue that halfway works. MMS? Never used most of them. I'm sure there's something else missing that I haven't noticed. Basically you'll be trading in well polished presentation from your carrier for a clean install of the latest. Overall WM 5.0 is awesome for me! Call quality, success rate, and reliability are all much better, which was my main reason for upgrading. Plus, the phone is faster, and all of the functions work much more logically now. If you want to attempt an upgrade, then read, read, read. Backup the phone first using the second method listed here: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...kup+typhoon+rom I can confirm that this works perfectly with an AT&T SMT5600. I was able to restore back to my original ROM, then go back to WM 5.0 As far as obtaining WM 5.0....Google is your friend!
